Smith’s Convocation is an amazing kickoff to the fall semester. The event highlights the strength of the Smith community and allows for a celebration of a new year.
2. Mountain Day
Mountain Day is a Smith tradition in which morning bells signal the unexpected cancellation of classes. Many students use this day to spend time and relax with their house members and participate in fun fall activities.
3. Foliage on the Path by Paradise Pond
The beautiful New England foliage livens up the campus in shades of red and oranges. One of the most beautiful spots to see the foliage is the path that runs along Paradise Pond.
4. Fall Foods and Activities
Cider donuts are a festive fall treat coated in cinnamon sugar that can be found at several local businesses near Smith, like Atkins farm! On Mountain Day or a weekend during the fall, many Smithies head to local farms to go apple or pumpkin picking. Chaider, a blend of chai tea and apple cider is a personal favorite fall treat that comes from the Campus Center Café.5. Family Weekend
Usually one of the last weekends in October, families and friends flood the campus for family weekend. There are so many fun activities to do and taking a break from school work to catch up with loved ones is time well spent.6. Julia Child Day
Another highly anticipated Smith tradition, Smith College Dining Services celebrates the legacy of Smith alumna Julia Child by preparing elaborate dinners in the dining halls on Julia Child Day.7. Big Sib Little Sib
Many Smith houses have a tradition of Big Sib Little Sib that takes place during the first few weeks of fall. Older students are secretly assigned "little sibs" and sneakily shower their little sibs with surprises, treats and goodies throughout the week and are later reveled to the little sib during a Big Sib reveal house tea.
