Smile, It's November

It's not negative twenty degrees just yet..

Smile, It's November

Ah, yes, November 1st. The last of its “warm” days are coming to an end along with the nights where you can wing it by going out sleeveless. You know that that the cold weather is coming with a side of winter blues. Before you grab your comforter and cocoon yourself into the corner of a bed, let’s think about some of the things that we can look forward to!

1. Hot Drinks

Whether it’s your complicated order at Starbucks or the store bought hot chocolate you have in the kitchen counter. There’s nothing better than warming up with a drink. If you fall under the basic- twenty-year-old girl category, like me, then you will find nothing but appreciation for the limited- time Starbucks drinks. Take advantage of this time and go treat yourself.

2. Family

For some people, this can be something to look forward to or something to dread. Along with the holidays coming up only rings in more time spent with the family. Yes, they may drown you with a ridiculous amount of questions. Yes, they may annoy you to no end. However, when it comes down to it, we lose time spent with family by attending school and should cherish the time we got. Let’s face it, we’ll be complaining about cooking food and doing laundry for ourselves two days back from break anyway.

3. Leggings

This for sure needs its own category. November brings in some of the comfiest clothes including cardigans, sweaters, moccasins, and of course, leggings. I own ten of the same type of black leggings and I regret nothing.

4. Shopping

Believe me, I am not the type to run around the mall for hours and truthfully say I enjoy it. However, I am an online shopping enthusiast. Participate in Black Friday and get trampled by some eager shoppers…or shop online safely inside your house.

5. CHRISTMAS

Because let’s be real Christmas starts the day after Halloween. The decorations. The music. The mindset of most people. Let’s not forget the Michael Buble holiday album we’ll all be having on repeat. What can put you in a better mood than being surrounded by the holidays?

November has potential to be one of your better months if you let it. Winter may be coming, but don’t let the thought scare you away from enjoying the autumn. Put on something comfy, drink something hot, spend time with loved ones, and blast some Jingle Bell Rock.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
