Another inequality post! Before you click away assuming this is an angry feminism article you want nothing to do with, take in the facts being presented to you. Recently, I was in Target getting some goodies and essentials when I noticed something peculiar. I was getting deodorant and meandered over to the men's section. I usually buy the brand, Secret because it works best for me. However, I had heard from several girlfriends of mine they use their boyfriend’s or brother’s deodorant. Why? It works exponentially better than their own. I thought I would check it out. Low and behold - there was a noticeable price difference.
Here is a screenshot from Target’s website of women’s Dove deodorant for $$4.39 for 2.6oz.
Here is a screenshot from Target's website as well but of men’s deodorant for $3.89 for 2.7oz.
Now you are probably questioning this because of the difference between men and women’s body odors, but if you ask me, people smell no matter what. I have met BOTH smelly women and men, so why would there be a $.50 difference? $.50 is not a lot of money but it adds up. There are plethoras of other brands of deodorant, but I noticed the BIGGEST price discrepancy between Dove. Take a closer look at the screenshots: the men's is cheaper for more product while the women's is more expensive for less product. Why is that? Is it because of the scent? Is it because of the packaging? Is it because of the effect of the deodorant? Well I am going to find out. I will be dedicating 1 week for Dove men's deodorant and the next week for Dove women's deodorant/
Stay tuned during the next TWO weeks to discover what I find. In the meantime, I advice you to look at everyday essentials in men and women's products and compare the prices. If you find a difference, email me or comment on this post! Let's figure this out - one smelly step at a time.
