So finals are finally over, praise the Lord. The stress of am I going to be able to keep my A, what will happen to my GPA if I don’t ect ect… ? All those questions now have answer or will within the following days depending on how quickly your professors grade. Some of you may be happy with the outcomes others may not. Either way it all comes down to how your GPA survived the week right? Wrong. Sure GPA is important, but your GPA doesn’t necessary determine how smart you are.
Here are some reasons why:
1. Some people simply do not test well
Just because you do not test well doesn’t mean you aren’t smart. Some people study for masses amounts of time and still simply do not test well, whether it is because of nerves, or simply just drawing a blank. A poor grade on a test that you study for doesn’t make you any less smart.
2. Test grades alone can not measure one's intellect
3. Some classes just aren’t your cup of tea
Tests are designed based off textbook material. Some people can apply the information extremely well when it comes to exams but can not apply it in real world situations, it works both ways.
There are classes in college that are just plain irreverent, yet you are forced to take them. Maybe it is just something as simple as a art class, something that won’t really help you with your chosen career path.
I am not saying that having a good GPA isn’t something that you shouldn't strive for, because it is. But it doesn’t define you. Sure college students joke that “pain is temporary but GPA is forever” but really the education you gain from school is forever. Sure getting a “A” in a class is a great feeling but if you do not understand and know how to apply what you learn it means nothing.
Yes your employee will look at your GPA when hiring you, but if you can show that you understand what you learned in school and apply it in the work place, that is more valuable than a 4.0.
Strive to do your best in school and if that gets you a 4.0 than that’s fantastic.. But if it doesn’t it doesn’t matter as long as you are doing the best that you know you can do. So for those of you who feel down on yourselves because your GPA isn’t that prefect 4.0 or even 3.5 it isn’t the end of the world and it doesn’t define you.
So study hard, but more importantly study to understand, to learn to apply do not just study for a grade. That shouldn’t be that hard to do your major is something that you are passionate about. Maybe this semester didn’t go as planned, but guess what there is always next semester, but until than relax and enjoy break, because in four short months finals will be back.
