Since it first aired in 1989, the Simpsons family has been through a lot, 28 seasons and 602 episodes to be exact. However, even though the show is intended to be a satirical portrayal of working-class life many of the events depicted actually ended up happening in real life. Here are a few of the times The Simpsons accidentally predicted the future.
1. Trump's Election
The most recent of these crazy predictions is the predicted presidency of Donald Trump. 16 years ago, in 2000, the episode "Bart To The Future" shows their future 30 years ahead. Lisa is the president and complains of budget issues from the prior president, President Trump.
2. Faulty Voting Machines
During the 2012 election a Pennsylvania voting machine was removed after it incorrectly registered votes for Obama as votes for Romney. The 2008 episode "Treehouse of Horror XIX" predicted this happening to Homer when casting his vote in the 2008 election.
3. Apple Technology
"Lisa's Wedding" an episode aired in 1995 intended to be in the future showcased many of Apple's future technologies. The characters talked to their watches to communicate and used video chat on their phones.
4. Horse Meat
Throughout the series, the things lunch ladies put into the school food are used as a running joke. More specifically in 1994, "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song" shows lunch ladies putting horse meat into the food. Disgustingly enough, in 2013 Bird's Eye, Taco Bell and Brakes were found to be selling beef products that contained horse DNA. Burger King was also rumored to have had issues.
5. Stolen Cooking Grease
The 1998 episode "Lard of the Dance" shows Homer stealing used cooking grease and reselling it to make quick cash. In 2013, a black market organization was discovered to be reselling used cooking oil as "yellow grease" is a valuable ingredient in biodiesel.
6. Ebola Virus
In the episode "Lisa's Sax" Bart is sick in bed, so Marge suggests they read a book. The books she pulls out is called "Curious George and the Ebola Virus: and depicts a monkey, suffering from an illness lying in bed. It is believed by many that moneys were the species who carried the virus that lead to the 2013 outbreak. Bart's drawing shown also depicts some of the atrocities to come.
7. 9/11
In "New York City Against Homer", Lisa holds up what would later be a hauntingly accurate magazine cover. It shows the word New York over a 9 next to a silhouette of the World Trade Center, making it read 9/11. This was aired in 1997, 4 years before the attacks.
8. Three-eyed Fish
Aired in 1990, "Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish" showed Bart catching Blinky, a three-eyed fish. He was living in the pond behind Monty Burn's nuclear power plant. In 2011, a three-eyed fish found in Argentina, in a reservoir fed by water from a nuclear power plant. The mutation did not appear to be natural, which was very worrying.
9. Snake Whacking
Every year the Springfield residents participate in "whacking day", a day where they round up local snakes and beat them to death. This tradition is shown in the 1993 episode "Whacking Day". 20 years later in 2013, in Florida officials launched the 2013 Python Challenge, a competition to see who could kill the greatest number of pythons. This was an attempt to work on the python problem in the area, and participants were encouraged to kill the snakes "humanely" aka not beating them to death.
10. Broncos Vs. Seahawks Superbowl
In 2005, Homer is seen watching a Broncos vs. Seahawks game during the episode "Bonfire of the Manatees". Although they incorrectly predicted the winner, they were still years ahead of the actual game.
11. Higgs Boson Particle
The Higgs Boson Particle was predicted in 1998 when "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace" was aired. According to Simon Singh, the author of "The Simpsons and their Mathematical Secrets" if you work out the equation written on the blackboard it is weirdly very accurate.
