What's Wrong With Being Smart, Beautiful and Talented?

It is so hard now to be a young person in today’s society. We are told that we do not work hard, but we are working several jobs to get by. We are told that we are narcissistic, but we talk to people. It seems like our friends don’t want to be with us or we all just feel alone at times or we need some space to exit the world and it can honestly be incredibly hard.

Pardon me, but don't we want to escape the cruel reality of the world? Don't we want to believe that when we leave we made an impression on the world? The thing, it, though, we all seem to go by unnoticed in a crowd of people- just sometimes there, but not really there.

We use social media because we want to be noticed; we are not getting any recognition from others in the outside world. If you are confident and you think you are talented and smart, you are seen as conceited by the ones around you. A person that is all three things is just not possible. You have to be one of the three, and that is simply not fair. We are more than just our appearance and our physical appearance does not dictate the mind that we hold within us. Reality is cruel, but reality can also be amazing. Reality can be a dream. We may love life so much that we are told that we can’t distinguish fantasy from reality. Why can’t reality be a fantasy and make us happy beyond belief? Shouldn't that be the goal? To have reality be better than our dreams?

We should be able to do what we love because if one is doing what he or she loves, it does not feel like work. It feels like your dharma. Love life, be proud to be beautiful, smart and talented. We shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to others because we all have different gifts and that is what makes us who we are. Everyone has the potential to amount to something great, to achieve the impossible and amount to whatever they choose to. The world is filled with new adventures. Be your own superhero and if you are beautiful, smart and talented, use that a bring good in this world and conquer of force of darkness that is always in the back of our minds.

Be bold, be kind, be modest, and for the love of everything right with the world- just be you.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
