Why Smaller, Less Known Bands Are The Best

Last week, I attended one of my favorite bands end-of-tour concert, and it showed me how amazing it is to love a smaller band. The Summer Set has been one of my favorite bands for years now, and the feeling that I got when I was able to hear them sing after years of not seeing them was absolutely amazing. Loving smaller bands is amazing because it's so easy to get close and meet the band. It's amazing to be able to meet the people who’s music has helped you through so much. I can honestly say I don't know where I would be without some artists and their music.

It all started years ago when I fell in love with a band and decided to see them a ton. It sparked my love of so many other bands that ended up being some of my favorite people ever. Whenever I would see a concert, I'd become more in love with the music that came along at those concerts. The headliners, the opening acts and everyone involved just brings me even more into the music. The feeling of seeing the people behind your favorite songs standing five feet in front and up on that stage. The rush of waiting after concerts to meet them while getting yelled at by your parents to hurry up. You can't give up the chance to meet the people that changed your life.

It's been around seven years of me being a fan of all these smaller, less known bands and it's been amazing the whole way. You experience the ups and downs of a small band. Although many of my favorite bands have since broken up, they will always have a special place in my heart. They showed me so many different bands, voices, people and friends just by a mutual love of music.

Every concert is just a huge adrenaline rush. It's where you just dance and scream at the top of your lungs and where you just don't

care who's watching. It's where you become best friends with strangers and bond over the music that has shaped you into who you are. It's where you can show your true colors and just live in the moment. Concerts make you want to dance and sing and just be there with your friends who become your family. The band and their fans are their own family and it's the best feeling being a part of such a beautiful family within the band and their fans.

We are their family just like they will always be ours. No matter if they break up, take a hiatus, lose a band member or become extremely famous, we will always be their family.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
