1. Recycle

You’ve heard it a hundred times and you’ll hear it a hundred more - save the Earth by constantly recycling like this cat does!

2. Turn off lights

Never waste energy by leaving lights on in empty rooms or even an empty house. Instead conserve it by remembering to turn off any lights when leaving a room.

3. Take shorter showers

Everyone loves a nice long shower, but imagine how many gallons of water you’re truly wasting. Try cutting down your time in the bathroom every day by at least a couple minutes.

4. Use less paper towels

The next time you use a paper towel, take a look to see how wet it actually is after you use it. If it isn’t soaked through entirely, you used too much. Pay closer attention to how much you truly need.

5. Turn off the faucet

Often times, we leave sink faucets dripping without even realizing. This is a useless waste of water - make sure to tightly turn and close your faucets!

6. Change travel habits

Gas emissions from cars contribute to a large portion of today’s global warming situation. By carpooling with friends or taking a bike/train/bus instead, you will inevitably be helping to reduce those dangerous emissions immensely.

7 Use refillable water bottles.

The amount of plastic water bottles thrown away could create a chain that would wrap around our Earth several times! Try a more environmentally-friendly alternative, like refillable water bottles.

8. Stop littering

Stop creating more messy trash in this wonderful world than there has to be! Dispose of your wastes properly, it’s really that easy.

9. Pick up trash

Clean up after those who don’t follow the before-mentioned. No matter where you find trash, I’m sure there’s a reasonably close trash can or recycling bin.

10. Read news online

Instead of subscribing to a normal newspaper, save paper and catch up on all the news online.

11. Inform others

Encourage your family and friends to participate in helping to save our world in small ways!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
