Moving to a new place is exciting and thrilling, especially if the new place is so different from the old one. Being from a small town, anywhere seemed intimidating and large. It's not until you move away do you realize the little quirks small towns have. Oddly enough, they all the seem the same. Here are 20 characteristics of a "typical" small town!
1. Nobody locks their doors.
2. There are roughly two stoplights in town (if you're lucky).
3. High school sporting events rank a close second to the Olympics.
4. Everything you'll ever need is within walking distance.
5. Everybody knows everybody...
6. ...and all of their secrets, too.
7. Your high school is surrounded by a corn field.
8. Roughly 95 percent of your high school was involved in 4H.
9. Everyone goes to the same hangout spots, which is typically a lake.
10. There is always that one person in town that you see everywhere, but know nothing about.
11. Jaywalking isn't something that you would ever get in trouble for.
12. Walmart is the best way to kill time.
13. Denny's is the 3:00 a.m. hangout during the summer when everyone is bored.
14. Bonfires are the glue to friendships.
15. Country music is the essence to summertime feels.
16. Cruising is considered a past-time.
17. Your high school class song was country and it made everyone cry.
18. You tell people you're from the nearest big city because you know they've never heard of your town.
19. Your school had "camo day" for spirit week.
20. Everyone complains about living there, but nobody ever leaves.
Regardless of where your small town is or how many people live there -- they are all the same. The feeling of coming back to your hometown after being gone is always the same ... it feels as though you never left. Cue "Whiskey Lullaby," sit around the fire wearing work boots, and think back as to why you even left in the first place...
