Small Town Loving

What I love about my little home town.

Small Town Loving

Growing up, you always heard your parents say we will know what you're doing before you even leave. And we all know we can't hide that from them. Our little town may seem like nothing ever happens but honestly as soon as something happens, no matter if it's on the other side of town it will travel all over the town and things start getting around and solved.

Most towns have a Walmart, whereas we have a Dollar General. We did have a small little grocery store, which we sadly said our goodbyes. Our little town may have three gas stations but always has business. Two sit down restaurants and two fast food restaurants. With all our little shops that we have people in our town support them all by buying local to show our support. Doing small things like this help grows our community together.

We may even have eight churches but they seem to always have cars in the parking lot on Sunday morning services. Even though we have so many different churches there are several teens that go to two different youth groups during the week. Which is wonderful because we are all united together!

We all know those famous lyrics from the 1980s television show "Cheers"

"Sometimes you wanna go..

Where everybody knows your name

and they're always glad you came.

You wanna be where you can see,

the troubles are all the same.

you wanna be where everybody knows your name"

In our little town, everyone basically knows everyone, which is super nice cause there's a joyful smile everywhere you go. I always love coming home to visit and know that my small town will always be home.

I love being able to walk around in town whether I'm just running errands or getting a bite to eat I always end up seeing someone I know. And I may only just have a short conversation with them but that's still a small impact on our little town. Even if we haven't seen someone in forever we end up being able to pick up where we left off, with our lives and end up treating it like we've never lost time.

Although we are a small town, we have an awesome school district, sports program and our music and drama department are slowly becoming successful. Our town comes together to support our school events whether that is being a musical event, or a basketball or football game.

No matter what happens to our little town, we all rally together to help fight the cause. Whether it's a sickness, or natural disaster our little might town comes together to help each other out. I love it because it just shows the small towns are so strong and can fight whatever is thrown our way.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
