I grew up in a small town, a small town I call my home. A lot of people talk down on small towns, especially mine Small towns are boring. There is nothing to do, nowhere to go. There is no fancy mall or fancy movie theater. There is no amusement park, beach, etc. Big cities have all of these, sometimes even more. I love to visit big towns, there is always something to do, people walking around, interactions and so on.
Like I said before, I like where I come from. I am from a small, hot, desert town. People may complain how it is annoying to know everyone in a small town, and big cities you are meeting someone new everyday. It is nice to see new faces, but it is also nice to see a familiar face. You do not realize until you leave for a while. Also, I will never complain about the traffic that never happens. It does not take a long time to get anywhere you need to go. It is nice to jump in the car and get to your destination within ten minutes. Also living in a small town, there is always usually that small food joint that is nowhere else, and if it is, it does not taste the same. It is so good; when you do move or go to college you just crave it and miss it!
I have lived here my whole life, other than going to college. I would not trade anything for growing up here. I have my family and friends here. I have made best friends that have made a huge impact in my life, life long friends. I have made friendships that are now seven years strong and still going. Although we did not have exciting things to go do, we found things to do. In other words, we made it fun. We did childish things, but it didn’t matter to us. There was no care in the world. We didn’t think about our problems or what we were doing the next day. All we thought about was that moment and that is what made it special. We would have kickball tournaments, relay races, water balloon fights, slip, and slides, and believe it or not, hide and seek tournaments. We came up with the weirdest things, but we never got in trouble, we just enjoyed the moment. We all became so close, that even going to different colleges in different states did not separate us. I come back home and everything is as if nothing changes between all of us.
All these little things make my small town into what I call home. Even if I do move later on in life, I will never forget where I came from, I will never talk negatively about it, and I will never complain about how I grew up here. A lot of my life was spent here and a lot of memories were made here that I will cherish. I am proud to be from a small town!
