What my tattoo means to me

When I finally got my first tattoo back in March, I had been thinking about what to get for months. I turned 18 in November, but had been deciding what to get the entire year leading up to my birthday.

Yes, I know that to many my tattoo is a little (or extremely) cliche, and I know that I may post way too many pictures of it. I also know that there is a meaning behind it. In fact, there are several meanings, one in each small detail.

To start I will explain the little cross that is perched on the tallest mountain. This one is fairly self explanatory, the cross represents my Lord and Savior. Living in the midst of the bible belt has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I have always been taught to be strong in my faith and never forget my roots. This cross is a reminder of my beliefs no matter where life may take me.

The next element of my tattoo is the arrow that holds the mountains. This arrow is symbolic of life. No matter how hard or far life pulls you back, you will always shoot forward harder and farther just as an arrow would. Although I may be young and have only went through a few small trials in life, I know that I will go through more as I grow older.

The permanent symbol on my arm is there to show me that there is always a reason for tribulations. Without the force pulling the arrow back, there would be no purpose for the arrow.

The last and biggest piece of the tattoo is the mountains, which are the main focus. These show that life has its ups and downs, but even when life is at its worse if you stay hopeful and faithful, it will always go up. Even when life is at its very best, you have to stay humble. Never get too big of a head and forget where you came from.

Not only do the mountains remind me to stay humble and hopeful, but they also remind of the mountains that I have grown up on. Those mountains will always be my home, where I have learned all of the most important lessons of life, made the very best of friends, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

As you may have noticed by now, I absolutely love my tattoo. It is a reminder that will be with me everyday for the rest of my life. It can go without saying that I absolutely love when people ask me the meaning behind my tattoo. Not only do I get to tell them, but I also get to witness to them which is one of the main purposes of the christian life.

Needless to say, I cannot wait until I am able to get my next tattoo, but I will do like I did with the first one and ponder on what to get for a while, until I know that it is just right for me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
