Whether it's for Thanksgiving, Winter break, or just for a casual weekend, we all have been there. The drive or flight home is one of the longest, but once we see that exit sign or luggage tag, it’s a great feeling. Yes, you love college, but a change of scenery is nice. Nostalgia kicks in, but within an instant, you’re flooded with questions from basically every person who recognizes you. Forget about relaxing, these people haven’t seen you in months. Get ready for your privacy to be completely violated.
Welcome home!
1. "How's school going?"
This is the most basic question, but it seems to always stump me. Trying to answer truthfully while also not expressing any signs of concerns is a struggle. “It’s great!” Is it really though? Did you not just spend the night in the library balling your eyes out because you have no clue how to pass Orgo?
2. "What's your major?"
No matter what I answer to this question, I’m ready for some criticism. Oh, you’re a Biology major? Good luck getting into med school. You’re an Editing, Writing, and Media major? I’m sorry, but please explain what that is. You’re an education major? Um, why? *insert doubtful thoughts about your decision here*
3. "What do you want to do after college?"
Um...
4. "Do you have a boyfriend?
First of all, are you kidding? I barley have enough time to drink my morning coffee, let alone make time for a boy. It’s not that I don’t want to have someone, it’s that I literally cannot. My course-load, leadership positions, job, and organizations are my boyfriends.
5. "Well you look great sweetie!"
No. Do not sit there and pretend I haven’t gained the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior 15. Your compliment is nice, but it doesn’t fix the fact that I attended too many “Fried Fridays.” Yes, I need to go to the gym, but I don’t have time. And, no, I refuse to wake up before the sun rises to do any sort of physical activity just because it’s my only free time.
6. "It was nice seeing you!"
Yea, it was nice seeing you too. Thanks for being the fifth person in a row to passively critique my life and make me completely rethink my future.
