1. Suck it up.

Sometimes things do not go your way. Do not mope-- move on. You will get stronger and learn from the experience. Crying about something you can not change will not help you or anyone else. And PS, no one wants to hear your complaining.

2. The world does not revolve around you.

It doesn't revolve around you, and it does not stop when you do, either. You need to be able to pick yourself up and keep moving when something does not go the way you wanted. Everything will be okay in the end.

3. Do not"poke the bear."

If you go after someone bigger or older or more powerful than you, do not be surprised if you end up getting hurt or your plan does not go... as planned. If you are bold enough to start something, you need to be strong enough to finish it.

4. Recognition is irrelevent.

Be humble. Keep pure intentions. Actions speak louder than words. Do good things for the sake of being good and helping others; do not do things just to make yourself look better.

5. Take pride in your work.

Work hard. Everything counts, and everything you do is a reflection of yourself and your character whether you want it to be or not, so represent yourself proudly.

6. Do not expect handouts.

Freebees are few and far-between. If you want success, you need to be prepared to give everything you have to get it. There are no participation trophies in the game of life.

7. Focus, but keep perspective.

While remaining focused on an end goal is crucial to success, you never want to get too tunnel-visioned to see the big picture. Also, never get so wrapped up in or stressed out about something that it consumes you. Always leave a little time for fun.

8. Know people.

Try to understand their personalities, backgrounds, perspectives, cultures, ways of life. Learn about others and broaden your horizons. Co-exist. We are all living on this planet together.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
