25 Small Everyday Joys In Our Lives to Be Thankful For

If we are being honest, there should be more than 25.

Mama, (and whoever said it first), was right when she said, "it's the little things." Those small pleasures bring me so much happiness and makes even the dullest of my days a little brighter. Here are just a few... believe it or not, this list is NARROWED down...

1. Singing throwback songs with your friends

A personal favorite, Ignition - Remix // R. Kelly

2. A cold shower after a hard workout

The kind of shower where you feel like you actually deserve it.

3. Fresh sheets

Nothing can put me to sleep faster!

4. Live music

You are lying if this isn't something you are grateful for. Guys with guitars on the side of the street are included.

5. Handwritten letters and notes

Or personal gifts.

6. Lighting more candles than necessary and having the best smelling room on the block

Don't lie, some of y'all living in dorms still do this...

7. Receiving a package in the mail

Even if it is a package you paid for.

8. Catching up with an old friend

Reliving all those messes brings on the feels.

9. Crossing things off of my to-do list (even if it is just "wake up")

I HAVE to add those kinds of tasks to my planner to make me feel like I had a successful day.

10. Flowers, succulents, plants, etc.

Especially succulents. Minimal care needed for maximum cuteness.

11. Lazy days full of movie marathons.

For me, the more horror movies I watch in a day, the better the marathon.

12. Finding a movie right away on Netflix.

It rarely happens, but when it does, it is nothing short of a miracle.

13. Getting a whiff of your shampoo when you take down your hair.

As if taking out a tight pony isn't relief enough

14. A cold room to sleep in.

But only so I can use my heated blanket.

15. Three day weekends.

Or four...

16. Hearing a song that has the PERFECT lyrics for your mood.

Bring on the tears, goosebumps or pang in the heart.

17. Having a friend (or two) that gets you.

Why have a friend that doesn't TBH?

18. When your dog expresses how much it missed you.

Nothing better than a wagging tail and claw marks on your arms from the excessive jumping.

19. When your cat actually wants to be around you.

Even if it is only so you will pet it.

20. Freshly painted nails.

I feel like 10x more of a woman when my nails are painted.

21. Not ruining those freshly painted nails.

This has probably only happened to me a handful of times though...

22. Finding other people who like the same music as you, or the same movies as you.

My fellow horror movie buffs, Classic rock fans and Stephen King readers, I love you lots.

23. New book smell.

I just hope I have never been caught in Barnes and Nobles with my nose only close to a book.

24. Old book smell.

Warning: brush the dust off before smelling.

25. Pretty much all books while I am at it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
