Small Changes That Make A Large Outcome
We have all heard the saying "New year, new me!", but honestly, a whole new you is a hard goal to set. The best way to reach a goal is to have small steps that build up to a better outcome. Here are some small changes you can make in your daily lifestyle that will make a big change in your year.

1. Drink more water.

We have all heard that we need to drink more water, so no more excuses. Track down how many cups you drink a day, or even set a goal to drink a certain amount. Carrying around a water bottle is a great reminder to keep hydrated.

2. Save the small bills.

Find a small box or envelope. Every time you get cash, put all the ones or fives into that safe space. Repeating this small set you will be surprised how quickly this adds up. This fund can be used for saving up for school, a trip, or a treat your self day.

3. Listen to uplifting music in the morning.

Nothing like starting out your day with a positive attitude. While you get ready for the day, listen to some music that makes you feel good. That happiness you feel listening to that one song will carry with you throughout the day.

4. Schedule some relaxation time.

If you're a student or full time worker, no matter what you day consist of, there is not much time to take for yourself. Set aside some time each day to relax. This can be reading a book, calling a friend, getting some coffee, whatever you need to do in order to fulfill yourself to be your best self.

5. Dress up.

Sure it is easy to throw on some sweats before your first class, but if it feels like pj's, your body will think they are pj's, hence the tired attitude. The saying "look good, feel good" is true, so once in awhile put on that cute top you never wear. You will feel better all day!

6. Have weekly dinners with friends.

Finding time to hang out with your friends is not as easy as it seems. Set up a time when you and your group can all get together and have a dinner once a week. You will have plenty to talk about within a week span, while giving all of you a night for fun. Keeping relationships can be hard so make time and effort to show your friends you still care.

7. Set a bed time.

Yes, this does sound like something for a 10-year-old, but as young adults we need it also. Making sure you get enough sleep a night is very important for physical and mental health. Set an alarm if that helps you put away the Netflix or the homework for the night and call it a day.

8. De-Clutter your space.

If your personal space is cluttered and messy, this can lead to anxiety, and stress. Try to make your own personal space a peaceful area for you to be able to go back to after a crazy day. To do so, take a garbage bag weekly and throw away any old food, papers, or anything that can be tossed away. Organize your clothes, school supplies, and other personal belongs in a way that will be easy for you to find. Sure, the task may be stressful at the time but the reward is much sweeter.

9. Plan out your meals.

Planning out your meals a day or a week in advanced allow you to prepare for groceries, preparation time, and save you from another night of grabbing an easy mac cup and calling it good. Planning out your meals also allows you to watch more closely what you are eating, rather than quickly getting something that may not be as good for you.

10. Have fun.

It is a new year. Take some time to have fun and make some memories. Make 2017 a good one!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
