I have always found the sloth to be one of the most alluring creatures. Any time I see a sloth video on facebook I have to stop and watch it, even if I’ve already seen it multiple times. Seriously, what isn’t to like about a sloth? I tell my friends all the time that I’m really a sloth in human form.

1. They’re cute!

They squeak and they hang upside down. That’s cute.

2. They are constantly eating.

Since their stomach makes up over a third of their body weight and their food isn’t all that nutritious, they are continuously shoving food down their throats.

3. They are probably the most “chill” creature on the planet.

Have you ever heard of a rampaging sloth? Neither have I. They are some of the most docile creatures, so much so that there have been known instances of sloths being eaten by animals half their size. Sloths panic, but they don’t fight back. That is beautiful.

4. They can hang.

They are literally hanging 24/7. I don’t even dream of having that kind of arm strength. Sloths are the friends who are down for anything as long as they don’t have to go very far or move very much or really do anything at all. If you come to the sloth that would be much preferred, because they didn’t want to come anyway.

5. They move slowly.

Some might think that the sloth is just a lazy animal, and they might be right. However, it takes a lot of work to constantly be on the lookout for more leaves to eat. It’s hard having much energy when the food you eat doesn’t give you any.

6. They sleep A LOT.

It is common for sloths to sleep up to 14 hours a day, and if that isn’t goals I don’t know what is! I am constantly thinking of how great my next nap is going to be. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t want to crawl back into my bed as soon as I’ve left it.

7. They are also incredibly clumsy.

There is a small percentage of sloth deaths that have been caused because of a sloth mistaking its own arm as a branch. Of course when they grab their own arm, they let go of the actual branch and end up falling to their deaths. Tragic.

8. They have long sharp claws.

Sloths have the means to protect themselves from danger, yet are incredible vulnerable because they don’t. Their claws are about four inches long and razor sharp. They could totally slash at their attackers, but don’t know that they have this ability. This would be me if I ever was being robbed or mugged. I have pepper spray on my key-chain, but knowing me I would forget I had it until it was too late.

9. They only leave their tree once a week to use the bathroom.

I’m not sure if this is massive willpower because they’re scared to leave the tree, or if they just hate going. Either way, this is pretty incredible. I know I hate going to the bathroom, so if I could go a whole week without having to go I would love it. I might be super bloated a gross looking, but I would love it.

10. They do their bidding at night.

Sloths are nocturnal, so most of their waking hours are late at night. I am not a morning person, and would much rather be up and about when it’s dark than when it’s light out. I enjoy the sun, but I enjoy not sweating from the southern heat more.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
