Hey y'all! If you want to get your slime on for whatever reason and NOT support the dastardly Autisim Speaks, then do I have the recipes for you! In this article, I'll be telling you how to make fluffier slime, and a more viscous, wobbly slime. Feel free to add your own colors, glitter, decorations, anything to make your slime yours. I'll be working with basic pink and blue glitter glue for this slime.
As an added aside; Please DO NOT ingest this slime as it may contain materials hazardous to your health. REPEAT; this slime is inedible. Now with that warning out of the way-Off we go!
First, the fluffy slime-
Add to a bowl:
1/4th cup of liquid Elmer's glue (note you can substitute glitter glue in this instance)
1 tablespoon of laundry detergent
Add baby powder and shaving cream and mix to get it to your desired consistency- Venus products work well here, but can sometimes add unwanted scents and could cause skin irritation. To make your slime last as long as possible and reduce the risk of injury, wash your hands before and after playing with your slime. The product ends up being a very stretchy, very fluffy lime like the blue slime in the thumbnail. I've mixed the two (the blue fluffy slime and pink wobbly slime) with interesting results.
Next is the recipe for the stiffer slime-
In a bowl mix:
1/2 teaspoon Borax
1 cup-1 1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup liquid glitter Elmer's glue
Liquid soap, shaving cream, and baby powder to desired texture
This recipe produces a more bouncy slime, and one that's a bit more solid like putty. In scientific terms, the borax stiffens the mixture, and the baby powder "dries out" and helps the process along. I think they're both perfect for stimming, and would recommend mixing the two.
Storage-
I'd really push for a seal-able glass jar with a lid, as this slime will dry out over time. The craft store Michael's often has these types of jars for cheap ($1-5) but really, any air-tight container will do. To boost the slime's life expectancy, prepare a clean enviornment before playing with your slime. Wash out your jar before-hand, and be aware of extra sticky slime.
Stimming-
What is 'stimming', you ask? It's simply a repetitive action performed (but not necessarily by) people on the autistic spectrum. It's essentially a self simulation, and many people unintentionally do it in their daily lives. It could include chewing, squeezing running hands through hair, waving hands, tapping toes/feet and many other behaviors. Slime is excellent for stimming because it can be repetitively squashed down, streched, gripped, bounced and is just generally entertaining.
