College has drastically changed my sleeping habits. Maybe for the better, most likely for the worse. Can you relate?
1. Asking yourself existential questions right before bed.
You're finally done with the day. You can finally rest your head on the pillow and relax. Then it hits you like a brick. What is my purpose in life? Am I making the right decisions? What will my future look like? Your best bet is to find something to distract you. Perhaps that book you were assigned, a Buzzfeed article or cat videos.
2. Using sleep as a coping mechanism.
Sometimes you're not even tired. You just had a tough day. Maybe you failed your quiz, missed an important deadline, or calculated your total student loan debt. Whatever it is, your bed provides that comfort you need.
3. Making your bed multi-functional.
Sometimes your bed becomes an eating area, a studying area, or a home theater when your friends come over to watch a movie. Studies show you should only use your bed to sleep, but college is all about versatility and convenience.
4. Taking "power naps" that last four hours.
Some days, getting to nap becomes a priority. You wake up and you're already planning when you'll get to crawl back into bed. You take a break from your busy day under the false pretense that a 30-minute nap will recharge your energy and get you through the rest of the day. Then you wake up hours later wondering how you managed to sleep that long.
5. Using sleep to avoid responsibilities.
Sometimes you feel so overwhelmed with work. Instead of coming up with a game plan to get things done in the most efficient way possible, you opt to avoid all obligations by going to bed. Maybe if you sleep enough, they'll magically disappear.
