Getting Sleep In College Is A Hard Concept To Grasp

For most college students, we have been in classes for about a month now. Go us! Wow, that's the most "freshman" thing I could have ever typed, but I'm sticking with it. Anyway, college has been such an awesome experience so far. I have met so many new friends, ate a lot of food, and yeah honestly that's pretty much it. Emphasis on the "ate a lot of food" part (it's pretty bad how much I eat here). Obviously, I joined different activities and whatnot here on campus, but yeah between that and my classes, I really don't have time for other stuff. That includes sleeping.

My sleeping schedule does not exist.

The day I'm typing this up, I don't even remember sleeping the past night. I even tried going to bed earlier than midnight. I was so exhausted from staying up late talking with friends and ordering pizza at 1 AM that I figured I should go to bed earlier Sunday night.

That did not happen at all.

I would constantly wake up every hour. I was so restless and I don't know why! It's currently 9:30 in the morning and I am in my French class. I'm trying so hard to keep my eyes open, but I'm about to pass out. Also, I have such a huge headache so that is not helping whatsoever.

Is this a thing at college? When you move in after a long summer, and you can't get a hold of a nice sleeping schedule?

I can think of a couple of reasons as to why I can't sleep at night:

1. I do not have a strict sleeping schedule.

2. I have stayed up past midnight every night the past month of being here.

3. I don't have a standard eating schedule (I get so hungry at night).

4. My class schedule is not consistent.

5. I may be developing insomnia.

Okay maybe the last one is really far-fetched, but I'm just trying to keep my mind open to all the possibilities.

I'm pretty sure I can't sleep because of how I spend my time throughout the day. It's really bad. Sometimes I tell myself to take a nap, but I never do. Maybe I should try that this week. I know I am not the only one that has trouble sleeping at night. Of course, some people do have insomnia and other sleeping disorders, so that is understandable. I know for myself specifically, I have to work on my sleep schedule and go to bed earlier every night.

Sleeping is SO important to our overall health. It is how our bodies regenerate energy to take on the following day. It is how we maintain a healthy lifestyle, as it is very important to our overall health. After being at college for a month, I am making it my goal to eat healthier, sleep more, and get more exercise. Not specifically in that order though because I definitely need more sleep before anything else.

If you are a college student, do yourself a favor and go to bed early. Especially on during the week. I get that everyone stays up late on the weekends, but when it comes to during the week make sure to get rest. It will make you feel so much better, and you won't be as tired during your classes. The amount of times I have dozed off in my one lecture class because I was exhausted is too high to count.

So please, get your sleep. You can wait to party when the weekend rolls around and stay up late then. Your mental health and energy are more important than your desire to go out and have fun. Stay safe, and enjoy your weekend!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
