On the night before 2019 officially begins, I'll be fast asleep by 10:00 PM. It's not that I hate being around my friends or anything of that nature, it's that I have decided to start caring more about my sleep cycles this coming year.
I am starting the new year the same way I wish to live through it - well rested. I will go to bed January 1st at 10:00 PM, just as I will go to bed on November 7th, 2019, at 10:00 PM.
For most of my life, getting a healthy amount of sleep was a Sisyphusian task. I would sleep for eight hours one night and then reward myself by going to bed at 4 AM the next day, ruining my previous work.
This year will be different. I say that every year. This year will be the year I clean my room more, exercise more, eat more vegetables. By February, I'll be back to my usual routine of living in a pigsty and only getting out of bed to get more chips.
2019, however, will be different. This year, I'm publishing my New Year's Resolution for hundreds of people to see. If I am not motivated to stick to a healthy sleep cycle because I care about my health, I'll be motivated by my need for external validation. There's no way I can fail, at least after typing out this entire tirade.
We'll wait until February to find out.
