It's easy to get caught up in all of the trendy workout routines, expensive personal training, and photoshopped six-packs on social media. Last week, I looked at one "Before and After" fitness photo on Instagram, and now I'm bombarded with suggestions for abdominal exercises. Did you know that exercising is supposed to make you feel good? It doesn't have to be a miserable gym sesh! Instead of shelling out cash for a 30-day gym trial, head to your attic and pull out these five childhood toys. Believe it or not, they may give you a better workout than you'd expect — and make you laugh along the way.
1. Skip it
Remember this 1980s success? Skip It was a toy designed to have the user skip and hop while twirling the apparatus around the ankle. Sounds simple, but you can really work up a sweat in the process! Try the 90s version that includes a skip "counter" and attempt to beat your score each time.
2. Twister
It's no surprise that this classic made the list. If you're craving a good stretch, whip out the spinner and put your right hand on RED! Grab a few friends to make it a little more challenging. You might find yourself in some advanced yoga poses by the end!
3. Sit n' Spin
Way to use your core muscles! Believe it or not, this simple plastic spinner is difficult to stay on! It's important to engage your core and keep your legs tight to enjoy the dizzy sensation. See how long you can go before you start seeing stars.
4. Hopper Balls
It's hard to see a hopper ball and not jump on! This version is similar to an exercise ball with a handle for grip. Bounce on this ball for 30 minutes and you will feel your leg muscles in the morning (and have a wide grin on your face the whole time....).
5. Moon Shoes
What is up with kids toys that bounce? These trendy moon shoes were all the rage in the 90s, allowing users to soar without a trampoline. Pull these babies out of the attic and start hoppin' for great cardio. Just be sure you're extra careful — I think we were all a little more limber in the 90s.
