Makeup and skincare are almost viewed as a necessity in 2018, and it's to the point where there are so many things you aren't supposed to do that you... probably don't even care to keep up with all the "rules." So, here are some of the mistakes we all make and don't care to stop.
1. Washing your face with hand soap.
Dermatologists hate her-- really. My entire skincare routine consists of hand soap and water, and maybe a face mask if I'm feeling fancy. I don't moisturize or tone or exfoliate or any of that jazz. I take the bare minimum, and then I do a tiny bit less than that.
2. Washing your face with hot water.
Washing your face with hot water can dehydrate your skin, which is great because I use foaming hand soap and scalding hot water on my face! However, if this is new information for you and you actually care to not dehydrate your skin (which I respect), you can instead use lukewarm water when washing your face.
3. Not using a primer.
I really, really don't care to do more than the bare minimum, so I rarely wear complexion makeup, but when I do, I skip over primer and go straight for concealer. But primer helps! It really does. When I do decide to go big, I use elf's Hydrating Face Primer.
4. Not washing brushes/sponges every week.
It's recommended that you wash your makeup applicators weekly because of bacteria, but if we're being entirely realistic, almost nobody does that.
5. Only using makeup wipes before bed.
You really should wash your face, too, but is that really going to happen?
6. Having a skincare routine that's just too perfect.
Look, Emily, nobody cares that you use makeup wipes, a pore-minimizing toner, and acne medication. We're lazy and tired and we don't care that much. But, like, props to you for caring.
