We've all had to deal with the "mean girls" in elementary school: the ones who make you feel insecure about going through puberty. We've then had to grow up and deal with the meanest type of girls: ourselves. Waking up and not feeling comfortable in your own skin is the worst form of hate. Waking up to an unwanted pimple, creased under-eyes, or unusual dry skin after a crazy night out is the last thing anyone wants. So how do we prevent those unwanted fine lines and black heads from occurring?

Before deciding how you want to go about your skin care routine, you need tonow your skin. People either have dry skin, oily skin, or a combination. It is good to know what exactly you will be targeting when working on a bettering your skin. Anti-aging, dark spots, acne, pores, sensitivity, blackheads, cuticles, redness, sun damage… there is an endless amount of skin concerns which have even more solutions.

1st Tip:

WATER! I may sound like an annoying mother, aunt or grandmother who cannot help but nag everyone younger than them to drench themselves in a pool of water every second of the day. Everyone knows how frustrating it is to grab a nice, refreshing cup of soda just to have someone talk down on you for not quenching your thirst with a healthier drink. Unfortunately, those who badger you are right. Water is the easiest way to hydrate your skin, getting rid of creasing, enhancing a youthful glow, restoring the skin’s natural oils.

2nd Tip:

Facials are the easiest way to get a fresh start when working on your skin. After pampering yourself with a professionals touch, your skin is in it’s most natural state, making it easier to work on a better skin routine from the start. This is not the type of skin treatment that should be performed every night, nor every other night. In fact, once or twice a year is the perfect amount of pampering for the skin.

3rd Tip:

For those who wear makeup, it is beyond important to make sure you remove ALL product from your skin before beginning your daily cleansing routine. In fact, cleansing wipes are for more than just removing makeup. Neutrogena makeup removing wipes and Krikland Signature™ Daily Facial Towelettes are the perfect, affordable makeup removing wipes for any type of skin. These could be found in any pharmaceutical department (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kmart). After one wipe, most, or all, of your makeup and dirt should be removed from the pores, allowing you to cleanse your skin without any dirt lurking around.

4th Tip:

Gentle cleansers and deep clean. After a long day or night, nothing feels more refreshing than removing all dirt from your skin. Deep cleansers, such as the The Murad Refreshing Cleanser, offers users an opportunity to wash away excess surface oils and impurities from the face, reveling the natural soothing of the skin. Although many may argue face cleansers make their skin abnormally break out, if the face is cleansed after dirt is removed (for example, with a makeup wipe), people are able to actually wash their skin rather than rub dirt which is hiding in the pours around it.

5th Tip:

Moisturizers are the perfect solution for any type of skin. The key to finding the perfect moisturizer is knowing what you want from your moisturizer. If your problem is dry skin, looking for products with key words such as “hydrating, H2O, aqua, restoring”, are your type of products. Those with oily skin should look for lotions that say “oil-free, SPF, skin balancing”. It is also important to know how your skin changes, if it changes, during shifts of seasons. Making skin moisturizing a morning and nightly routine could save your skin from all types of damages.

6th Tip:

Pampering! Pamering your skins with masks and serums are key to healthy skin. When you are laying in bed watching tv or doing homework, that is the perfect time to throw on a face mask and let your skin absorb the products that will allow it’s perfect, natural complexion to reveal itself once again. Sephora offers a number amount of lyocell fiber masks, each with a different, specific skin care target and benefit. None lyocell finger masks, such as the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask, are yet another skin care solution.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
