One Size Does Not Fit All

Let’s get something clear. One size does not fit all.

I get so aggravated when I go shopping and I see that tag on a piece of clothing because it is the farthest thing from true. I can’t even stand when I see “one size fits most.” I think that might be even worse.

Nobody is the same. We have been told this since we were little kids but apparently some clothing companies never grasped this concept. My likes, dislikes, mannerisms, and especially my body shape will not be the same as the person shopping next to me. So to simply exclude a size on clothing items to let anyone wear it is absolutely ridiculous.

I am a bigger girl and always have been. I have my curves, I'm quite chesty and I have a rather flat bottom. Being this way I want to wear clothes that work with my body to make it look good and make me feel comfortable. So I stick to the bigger sizes because I am confident enough to admit that I am who I am. By even trying the "one size fits all" clothing on it’s really hard on my self esteem when I'm not be able to fit into clothes that should fit everyone, especially when I’m not even considered ‘plus-size.’ When I see one size fits all, it doesn’t do anything for me. If anything it gives me false hope that I could possibly fit in a size medium when I know I can’t. I would rather celebrate my unique size and wear clothes that fit me beautifully rather than approximately right.

This isn’t "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." A pair of pants aren’t going to fit me and the girl that a size four next to me; that logic just doesn’t make sense. No one is going to be offended if clothing brands label their clothes by proper sizes, that’s the way it always has been and for a good reason.

All clothing stores are doing by making these one size fits all clothes is making people feel bad about themselves. It says I’m not normal because I don’t fit in “all”. These companies are just trying to pertain to the average girl, but truthfully there is no such thing as an average girl anymore. You could be the same height as someone but a different size, a different weight, and a different body type. That's just reality.

So let’s do away with the ‘one size fits all” or the "one size fits most" because there is no benefit from it. People who would normally fit in that clothing will be just fine if it is labeled “small” or “medium.” We should embrace our bodies and rock the outfits that fit us the way we want it to because like I said we are all different and there is no reason to feel shameful about that. You are beautiful the way you are, don't let a clothing brand let you think anything different.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
