6 Ways To Crush The Spring Break Slump

Spring break is over and we are back to reality. Back to school, homework, tests, papers, work, and all the stress that goes with it! The weather is (slowly) getting warmer and all we crave is summer. Oh glorious summer! However, we have six weeks left of school and if you are anything like me, you are over it! You have no motivation! You can't focus! You stress over the growing list of things to do but stressfully continue to watch Netflix anyway. How can we possibly get through the next six weeks? I'm here to help you out!

1. Look up study/note taking videos or Instagram accounts!

This sounds strange I know! I felt weird typing those words into the search box on YouTube when I first did it! The purpose behind this is that if you watch videos of people working on school work or hear them talking about how they take notes it might motivate you to get your own work done! You may find ways on Instagram or Pinterest to spruce up your notes and it will keep you focused on shrinking that monster of a to do list!

2. Don't over work yourself!

In the small chance that you get a crazy burst of energy, do not study for eight hours straight! It is recommended that you set a timer for 45 minutes to an hour. During this time you study/work on a task and once the timer goes off, you take a break. Now take a break with caution! Don't take longer than 20 minutes because your chances of going back to work will start to lower. But continue this pattern until you are done or need to stop!

3. Keep track of your planner!

Keep up with your planner! Do not let due dates get away from you! I know you don't want to do anything and neither do I but if you don't keep up with upcoming tests and assignments you are only asking for more stress and more procrastination.

4. Put motivational quotes EVERYWHERE!

Put them on post it notes! Put them as your phone and computer background! Randomly search them! We are digging into the reserves of motivation here! We have to do what we have to do to get stuff done! Go through and find your favorite or just google motivational quotes and scroll through them for a couple minutes if you are really struggling!

5. Spend some time with friends!

Sometimes having a pity party works! You and all of your friends are in the same boat! Go out to eat! Complain! Vent! Don't close yourself off because of your lack of motivation or stress! Friends help! Use them, in a good way!

6. Put your hair up in a bun and deal with it!

One of my favorite quotes! I may relate to this because I cannot work on anything when my hair is down! I don't know why, I am a weird human. But it is the truth! In the literal sense when I put my hair up I am preparing to get down to business and knock out this assignment! Sometimes all you need is a simple reminder that all you need to do is put that hair up and get it done!

I hope this helps get you through the next six weeks! I believe y'all can do it! We can do it! Remember caffeine is your best friend, unless you are a migraine sufferer like I am! Go forth and prosper!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
