Baseball season recently started and I’m so stoked. Being a baseball fan for most of my life, I’ve had dreams of traveling to Boston to watch the Red Sox play or to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs. But since New Orleans has the Zephyrs, a minor league team, I had to dream on. Anyone from New Orleans can attest to the fact that we love the Zephyrs, but they’re no Saints. There’s always something going on at Zephyr Field and you’ll always have a good time, but there’s something missing.
I found that missing something in LSU baseball. I attended my first LSU baseball game during the series opener. It was the second game against Cincinnati and the game the night before came down to one run, so tensions were pretty high. I don’t know what I was expecting when I first walked into Alex Box, but being there was unlike anything else. It doesn’t have as intimidating a feel as Death Valley but it’s still a place where I would not want to be sitting in the opponent’s dugout.
After attending my first LSU baseball game, I came up with a nifty list of how to do LSU baseball properly.
1. Wear sunscreen
It’s hot outside.
2. Bring a hat
The more protection the better.
3. Spend your Paw Points
Concessions accepts Tiger Cash and Paw Points so if anyone with a meal plan is looking to spend some points hit me up. I’m a poor college student.
4. Make fun of the outfielders
They’re good sports, and someone has to do it. There’s someone that will usually start it and you know they can hear you. They’re right there.
5. Wear your purple and gold
For me, this means wearing shorts or leggings and my most comfortable LSU t-shirt. Comfort is key.
6. Have fun
LSU baseball is free for students so take advantage of it.
LSU baseball is an experience in itself. There’s not as much tailgating but there’s still the love for LSU. Our school comes together through sports; it seems to be the common thread as to why many of us chose the best school in the south (and the nation) to call their own. How blessed are we to say that we go to school where our baseball team has six national titles? Our boys are amazing and they’re playing their hearts out. Let’s go out and show those who play for and represent our amazing school some love and support.
And most importantly, geaux Tigers!
