Ah the Fourth of July! I can smell the burnt hot dogs and cheese burgers and suncreen from here! Well folks, this week for you I have six things that I think you should take into consideration to make your Fourth of July just a little bit better!
1. Take Part in the things happening in your community
During this holiday there is always some form of fireworks, parades, barbecues, fairs/carnivals, and concerts. If you know someone that is going to have a barbecue, ask if you could stop by, or go to that local fair/carnival with your friends. You’ll have a ball making memories with the people around you. Always watch the fireworks, that’s like a staple for the Fourth of July. There has never been a year where my family hasn’t either gone to the beach or watched the fireworks show on the TV.
2. Spend the Day out in the Sun!
Don’t waste your day in the house! Bust out some washers and corn hole and gather some teams up! Soak in the sun and chill in the pool if you can, but remember your sunscreen! Set up the barbecue and make some good barbecue food to really make the Fourth of July complete!
3. SPARKLERS!!
Put on a bad ass Fourth of July play list and light those suckers up and dance like no one is watching because you know what? It’s the Fourth of July and you shouldn’t care what people think at all.
4. Watch Independence Day
Because who doesn't love an action movie with Will Smith in it?! Also, Bill Pullman makes an amazing president (Bill Pullman 2016? I'm kidding!) and you can witness him make one of the best movie speeches in cinematic history to exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!" Also if you want to go see the new one that's up to you (and no I'm not being sponsored at all).
5. We are One Month Away from the Summer Olympics
Just like a bunch of people in the world, we are about to put the best of the best into a competition (and no we're not starting our own Hunger Games) to prove we are the best country out of all the rest. And while we have to wait a little longer during the time between now and August 5th, we get watch who will qualify for our team (P.S. enjoy this gif of Michael Phelps!).
6. And Remember why we celebrate the 4th of July
Some people over the years have forgotten the reason we celebrate the fourth of July. The fourth of July for those of you who don’t know or remember it’s our Independence Day! It is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 (hence, why we celebrate it on the fourth of July) by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies as a new nation, and we're no longer part of the British Empire.
