I’ve had my Valentines ready for over a week now. I wrote little puns on the cards and picked out different heart shaped candy to pair. I adore Valentine’s day just as I do every holiday. The decorations, cute stuffed animals, candy, and did I say decorations? Any events that require gaudy knick-knacks are my bread and butter. Even single, there is always something to do on V-day. Here are six activities to do this Valentine’s day whether you're dating someone or just hanging single.
1. Spa Date
Instead of getting stressed because you don’t have a date, head to the spa with some friends. Massages are never a bad idea and it will make your Valentine’s day relaxing and refreshing. Treat yourself. Couples, this works for you too. A lot of spas offer couples massages. It's a way to enjoy time together and take a different route this Valentine’s Day.
2. Attend a Valentine’s Party
Whether you want to host or just attend, Valentine’s parties are fun! Being single, if you don’t have the regular dinner plans, this is a way to either just hang out with your friends or even meet someone if that’s your goal. It’s also a nice excuse to dance and play a drinking game or two. Even for a couple, if you want a little excitement, break in that lovey-dovey evening; heading to a party for a little bit or even just a pass by is something a little different from usual V-day plans! Parties are never a bad idea. My housemate and I had a Valentine’s party and we dressed up in pink tutu’s and wings. We were Cupids sent to spread the love with nerf guns, AKA Cupid’s arrow, and if we shot you, the choice was to kiss or drink. Have fun with a V-day party! Everyone needs love, not just significant others!
3. Craft V-Day Cards
I don’t know about other college kids, but I color in my spare time as a stress reliever. Coloring led to crafting and crafting led to Valentine cards. Making your own cards for friends is a relaxing break from the usual studies and your friends will love getting them! Get some people together and have a crafting movie date. Add some of those heart shaped sweethearts for a snack and your good to go!
4. Valentines Dinner
Head out to dinner, romantic or just for funsies. If you have a date, make reservations at some restaurant for a romantic meal. It’s the usual date, but do something to make your evening special and more personalized. Go to a make your own food restaurants, where you cook it yourself. Find a restaurant with live entertainment with comedy nights, karaoke, or just live music. If you're single, get some friends together and book a whole table. The love of friends and food is all that needs to be celebrated. You can personalize it for friends too!
5. Ice Skating
This is a little teaser to the Valentine’s Day evening. This is a moving activity for both single and couples. It’s nothing too serious, but still, a good time for everyone to enjoy. There is nothing funnier than trying not to slip on the ice and then you do. Because we all slip, laugh with each other. Friends and significant others guaranteed to have a good time.
6. Be a Chef for a Night
This is kind of like a dinner date, but this makes the evening a little more comfortable because this is in the home! This works for singles and couples! Singles get together and have a wine dinner night. Couples, it’s time to get closer in a different way. Make dinner at home and cook it together. You can even do it in different courses. Appetizers, main meal, dessert. Desserts can lead to more dessert. If it’s warm enough, do a candle light dinner in the backyard with lots of lights. If cold, inside works just as good.
This is just a little list to get the ball rolling for Valentine’s Day. Personalize the evening to what you and your other person want to do. The little things make it all the more special. There are so many ways to enjoy the day and feel the love, whether single or coupled. Happy Valentine’s Day!
