The past week has really beaten me to a pulp mentally, physically, and emotionally. I've been stressed, anxious, and overall exhausted this entire week. As the weekend has grown closer, my mood has, fortunately, lessened. In light of this, I thought it would be fitting to share some of the more unconventional (for lack of a better word) things that cheer me up when I'm down; some of the little things that can put a smile on my face. So, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite things (this made me giggle a little):
1. Fuzzy Socks
These things are not only a conversation starter, but a life saver. When I'm feeling down and my feet are cold, fuzzy socks just instantly make me feel a lot better. The amount of these socks that I've either bought while here or brought from home makes my drawer overflowing. Cute and soft: yes. Space consuming: also yes.
2. The Smell Of Snow
This one might be a little out there, but there is no denying a distinct smell when snow is falling during a quiet night. When it gets colder and the flurries start to descend from the sky, wait until people are in their homes for the night and either open your window or walk outside: it should be a gorgeous, but eerie silence that greets you, along with a smell of fresh snow. There is truly nothing like it around.
3. Cold Sheets
I blame my mother for this one 110%. Whenever she goes to bed, she loves getting into one with cold bedding. For reasons unknown, she can't take a warm bed, but loves towels fresh out of the dryer (see next paragraph). I don't know when I developed this strange love, but Mom, thanks for showing me this odd enjoyment.
4. Warm Towels (Fresh From The Dryer)
This is a complete 180 from the last entry, but you cannot deny the hypnotizing warmth of sheets and towels straight from the dryer. Just thinking about them makes me want to curl up with a fresh "batch" and take a nap.
5. A Never-Before-Used Makeup Palette
Not everyone who reads this might feel the way I do about this, but opening a makeup palette and just seeing all the pristine eyeshadows that sit there untouched, waiting to be used is something similar to seeing freshly made pizza being placed in front of you. Did I just compare makeup to pizza? Yes.
6. Oversized Sweatshirts
I will gladly have someone fight with me over this, but there is literally nothing better than an oversized sweatshirt and high socks, popcorn and a movie. nothing.
If you haven't tried any or all of these, my challenge is to do so. Even if you find them weird, at least you're trying new things.
Stay safe and have a good week (and happy November),
