Six Must Do's For My Twenties

I've always been the girl to plan out my future. I have always had big dreams for myself. A beautiful house, somewhere warm, big backyard, well paying job, and a million cats (I wish). I've also thought about the short term goals that I want to accomplish. Hopefully getting my masters degree, living on my own, and buying a car. Now that I'm in college I've realized how close my twenties actually are. Time is a crazy thing. It passes by so quickly. One day you're here, the next day you're ten steps ahead. You don't realize how fast everything is until you finally reach what you've wanted. I've learned that you need to just be spontaneous and do whatever you want. You need to live your life to the fullest. No one ever knows when time is up. You don't want to live a life of regrets and what if's, you want to look back and cherish all those memories and tell stories about everything you've done. I hope to accomplish many things in my twenties. Twenties, what a time to be alive, especially in today's world.

1. Visit California

My brothers and I used to watch the O.C. Every. Single. Week. I used to scream the theme song so loudly that to this day my brothers still make fun of me for it. Ever since that, I've wanted to visit California. I also absolutely love the San Francisco Giants. My man crush is Buster Posey. If you're reading this Buster, hit me up!

2. See Coldplay in concert

I've developed such a deep love for Coldplay. I have a whole playlist on Spotify just for their music. "Fix You" is one of my favorite songs, not only because of Chris Martin's beautiful voice, but because of the meaning of the song. He wrote it for Gwyneth Paltrow after her father died. He wanted her to know that he is there to comfort her.

3. Discover Manhattan

I am a city girl, hands down, born and raised in New York. I've been to Manhattan about 500 times already. Manhattan is my home away from home, it is my sanctuary. It's the one place that calms me down and makes me feel at ease. Yeah, the subway is crowded and smelly during rush hour but I absolutely love it. I've been to all the touristy places like Times Square, One World Trade, and the Empire State Building, but I really want to discover it, though. I want to find new places to eat and new places to shop. I want to visit all the museums, and I want to get food off the carts on the corner of the streets. I feel like there is always more you can discover, and there's always more you could learn. Especially in Manhattan! It is the city that never sleeps.

4. Fall in love

I want to fall in love with a person, a hobby, myself, a certain food, a certain place. I want to fall in love with someone or something that makes me absolutely happy and makes me feel good.

5. Get a tattoo

I've always drawn on myself with sharpies and I've let my friends doodle all over my skin. I've always been fascinated with tattoos. I feel like tattoos are a way for a person to express themselves and to also give a name for themselves.

6. Volunteer

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Some people are truly blessed to have a home, a job, and a family. Some people, unfortunately, don't have that. Some people can't go home during a cold winter day, some people can't afford to buy dinner for themselves or their family. My mom has taught me a life lesson that I'll always remember. She told me to always give back, to always help someone who needs it, and to always try to make someone's life better, because I am lucky to have all that I do.

I really hope that I accomplish these things in my twenties, and if not in my twenties then my thirties. Thirties are a very long time from now, though, so that list can wait for now.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
