Six Life Lessons I Learned by Watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Growing up, we learn lessons from experiences and advice from the wise, however, for me growing up, I learned some of the best life lessons from one of the best entertainment creations known to man, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Since 1994, I've gotten the chance to endure the laughs, heartaches, and teachings from some of the world's favorite characters, and today I have taken away some of the best advice I could use in any lifetime.

1. Never take yourself too seriously.

In our day to day lives, we endure stressful situations that becoming tedious and repetitive, especially as college students. Something that F.R.I.E.N.D.S has taught me is to laugh at myself and life's sticky situations and never let life get the way of being happy.

2. When life gets you down, it's important to sweat the small stuff.

Throughout life, we endure good moments and not-so-good moments, and it is crucial to not let the little not-so-good things get in the way from being proud and happy of who we are. Relieve stress by going for a walk or by allowing yourself a mental distraction, and don't allow yourself to be consumed by the temporary stressors in your life.

3. Never forget to follow your dreams.

No matter the dream, big or small, its important to allow yourself to do anything in your power to reach them. Being selfish when reaching your goals is crucial because it's a time to live for yourself and not let anything or anyone stop you.

4. Always take time for yourself.

Even though surrounding yourself with people who bring happiness in your life, it is just as important to take a minute, an hour, or how much time a day you need to calm your thoughts and compose yourself after a 'very long, hard day' as Chandler would put it. Allowing yourself to meditate your mind and take a couple deep breaths make it easier to make the next step on the road to your happy, successful self.

5. Dancing makes everything better.

Throwing on music and breaking out in dance is one of the most fun things you can do for yourself. When you're going through a tough time in life and you're feeling down, breaking out in a mini 5-minute dance or going out to dance the night away will allow ease to your mind and bring joy to your life.

6. People will come and go, but true friends never leave your side.

The sole concept of F.R.I.E.N.D.S is to watch the lives of 6 20-somethings endure life's great achievements and heartbreaking endeavors. No matter the situation, it is important to surround yourself with people who will be there and have your back no matter what. Having a strong, loyal backbone makes it easier to get through the heartaches of live, and makes the happy times 10x more worth it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
