Situations Only Cashiers Understand

Cashiers are actual people, just because they need to count your change doesn't mean their any less educated or competent.

You could say that the process of scanning someone's items and charging them would be super simple but, that's just not the case. Whenever I go shopping whether that is for groceries, clothes, or electronics I am always considerate to the worker behind the register or around the store because, their job is important and they are intelligent. They are willing to work with me in order for me to leave the store as happy as I can be. It isn't always the fault of the employee if a customer is having a bad day or if the last customer service experience the customer had was bad. Cashiers are regular people, individuals like you and I. I happen to be a cashier at a grocery store and always treat a customer according to their specific wants and needs. Sometimes the consideration an employee shows a customer is hardly returned due to the personality of the customer which makes it rather difficult for an employee to enjoy most moments working. I don't know if you know this or not but, cashiers want their customers to have a fair, fast, friendly check out and people should know this before assuming other wise.

1. When customers look at you as if you are a maid or machine.

Cashiers are actual people, just because they need to count your change doesn't mean their any less educated or competent.

2. When customers think they are the only ones waiting to be helped. Cashiers are not limitless, they have to wait too.

Cashiers do not have any special privileges of overriding a void. Usually a cashier's light will blink when they need too need help with the system. We do not have keys. Trust me if we did, you'd be on your way!

3. When customers don't leave heavy items in their cart...

Don't worry, we are all getting a work out now, even though there is a scanning gun for that to make our lives easy. -GG

4. When customers think that expired $3 coupon is valid, you tell and show them 1/31/2015, that was last year, but yet their "always" right because the store does not want to lose customers..

No problem ma'am your total is $7.

5. Express lanes are limited to 15 items or less.. not 50.

Are you open? I have groceries for 3+ weeks..is that okay?

6. Being seen as a psychiatrist for some customers because, what better time is there than on a 6 hr shift ha.

Yes..I think it's actually a blessing your daughter eats vegetables, so what if it's always broccoli!? My mom couldn't get me to eat enough of those..

7. Saying, "Can i have your store loyalty card" to your customer twice because, you already forget asking them..

Cashiers see so many people hours on end, they tire like anyone else, be glad they did not forget to ask. Savings are important.

8. When you tell a customer their total and they pay with cash, only they don't hand it directly to you they place it on the counter alongside their loyalty card.

Uhh..I am a person, I don't have an infectious disease, this is 2016 civil rights happened, please show curtesy and consideration.

9. Cashier greets customer, scans and bags customer's items, asks them about coupons and says thank you.

The customer walks away unsatisfied.

10. Cashier says total is $12.14, customer says okay here is a $20.

Cashier opens up tilt and places cash and coins inside but, customer says i wanted to give you .14 so it could be even..

Cashiers can't open their tilt after an order.

11. Cashier goes shopping, looks at bananas as if they are 2011, and bagels as if they are 1655.

Boy oh boy..

12. Cashier gets hungry and starts making a list in their head of items they see and like..

Is this just me?

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
