I consider myself a bit of a T.V. buff, especially when it comes to sitcoms. I can't say if it's the crazy ensembles, the loose importance of continuity or just my love of laughter, but sitcoms seem to tickle that sweet spot in binge-watching.
I'm sure we've all been recommended a million shows to watch that are likely filled with dragons or zombies or cancer-ridden drug dealers, but I say we take a break from all of that heavy stuff and enjoy a laugh or two. To help you find the perfect comedy to binge, here's a list of 6 shows you're sure to enjoy.
1. "The Office."
I'll avoid beating around the bush and just start with the best. If you're a fan of the mockumentary style and an incredible ensemble and a remarkably awkward main character, "The Office" is perfect for you. Michael Scott's antics in tandem with one of the best love stories a sitcom has ever seen make this a seriously binge-able pick.
2. "Seinfeld."
Ah, the quintessential show about nothing. Though for a show about nothing, it sure feels like something. From the hilarious and incredibly stereotypically Jewish-New-Yorker minds of Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, "Seinfeld" serves as a pretty timeless expression of all of the things that make us crazy, and lots of Kramer rushing through doors.
3. "Scrubs."
Scrubs, a funny spin on the medical dramas we know and love, follows J.D. through his residency and path to self-awareness while blurring the lines between reality and fiction on account of his over-active imagination. If you're not too into the medical side, it's worth sticking around for Turk and J.D.'s bromance and the unyielding wit of Dr. Cox.
4. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
I'm not too sure I can classify this as a sitcom because it breaks basically all of the rules. The characters are unlovable, the plots are incredibly insane and unrelatable and the humor is so inappropriate that you can't help but throw your hand over your mouth on account of shock. In spite of all of this, it's still one of the funniest shows ever made. If that hasn't gripped you, I have only two words: Danny DeVito.
5. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
Similar to number 3, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" offers a comedic spin on the all-too-popular procedural crime drama. It's a little hard to believe such a wild group of misfit law-enforcement officers could manage to keep an entire community safe, but they manage AND keep it funny. Fans loved this one so much that they ensured cancellation didn't mean it had to end, getting picked up by Hulu last spring.
6. "How I Met Your Mother."
An epic story told over the course of what is apparently one afternoon, the awkward and over-analytical Ted Mosby recounts to his two children the events that led up to, you guessed it, how he met their mother. Drawing inspiration from the classic "Friends," HIMYM is an emotional and comical roller coaster for its 5 main characters as they navigate their 30's in New York City. Trust me, its legendary.
Hope you're prepared to spend your vacation glued to your couch, eating Bonbons and watching one of these carefully picked gems. Hell, you're likely to get through a few Christmas episodes while you're at it.
