Until last year, I was the only girl in my family. I have three brothers, and I was the second to last kid born. I call myself a middle child, but my older brother Joshua (a tried and true middle munchkin) would beg to differ. Heck, even my mom disagrees. She considers me the baby of the family—a really responsible baby. Or whatever that means? Anyways, I enjoyed my status while it lasted, and I won't deny it, there were certain privileges that came with it, but on the flipside, having a sister is so much better.
Molly Anne entered my life on Labor Day weekend of 2015, and please allow me to set the scene for y'all. Have you seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding?
Well, picture that but in Texas with barbecue and Aggie football.
Molly had no idea what she was getting into. It was the first time for her to meet the family and, oh give or take, 30 of our closest friends and relatives. In fact, to me, that day was a blur. I had just driven home for the weekend from College Station to celebrate Labor Day and meet Molly. Nothing was out of the ordinary for me, but I'm sure she was only slightly overwhelmed. Ha! Molly, in retrospect, I am sorry, but girlfriend, you jumped in with both feet, and I applaud you for that!
Anyways, my oldest brother Johnny and Molly had only been dating a few months, but it took me almost no time at all to know that she was the right lady for Johnny. She was a little shy, but whenever she did speak, you listened because she is super wise and caring and beautiful and just everything. Molly is everything good, and better yet, she made Johnny a better man. That was the ultimate check off the list for me, and all I can say is that you will know it when you see it. Your sibling will become better. Many of their positive attributes will become highlighted, and maybe even some new traits will appear. It is honestly one of the neatest things to watch. Johnny transformed like a beautiful butterfly, and while I did not know Molly apart from Johnny, I'd wager that she had a bit of a metamorphosis herself.
So I knew early on that she was the oh so romanticized "one" for Johnny, but in my head, the tricky part was figuring out that completely foreign sister dynamic. What did one do with a sister? Well, I quickly found that you talk to your sister about anything and everything! Molly is older than me, so I was incredibly lucky to gain a new role model, confidant, and all around life guru. Y'all, sisters are great! I can ask Molly anything, and we have lots of fun together, and we like the same movies (shoutout to Gone With The Wind)! Gaining her sistership (sister + friendship) has forever changed my life. My brother is better. My family is better. Everything is better with Molly Anne in it, and I only hope that when y'all gain a sibling, it's an expansion of your heart and home, like it was when Molly came into ours.
