Sisterhood has many meanings to me: it means that no matter what time of day it is or where you are, you have someone who is there for you; sisterhood is having a person who will tell you the truth when you need to hear it even if nobody else will; and having someone to help solve problems when you can’t think of the right answer. Sisterhood doesn’t have to be a relationship where you interact daily as long as the above-stated qualities are acted out. Sisterhood can occur outside of a blood relationship.
Sisterhood is not only having someone be there for you, but it also means that you are there for someone else in return. Sisterhood is a bond that takes work, yet, though it changes over time, it cannot be broken. When you are in a sisterhood, you have to work to be there to support, lead, and guide each other.
Being in a sorority provides you with a sisterhood where blood relationships are not required. Building traditions and accomplishing new things while the others surrounding you are aiming for the same thing is the goal for a sorority. Being in a sisterhood is about taking the time to get to know people who you may not have known forever but were put in your life for a reason. Finally, sisterhood is about giving and growing -- you give your time and effort, and you gain lifetime supporters and people who will help steer you in the right direction.
A sisterhood between the individuals involved should consist of honesty, loyalty, dependability, and trustworthiness. Not only do these concepts allow the bond to grow stronger, but they ensure that the bond will last a lifetime, as opposed to be only temporary. Each individual should feel comfortable going to her sisters for any and every thing, no matter the circumstances, and know that no matter what, they will do everything possible in order to support her.
Sisterhood is about the growth and opportunities that come from being a shoulder to someone else while also gaining the opportunity to create a bond that will last a lifetime. Sisterhood is a bond that can only grow, and can never be broken.
