Why a Sister Makes the Perfect Best Friend

Why a Sister Makes the Perfect Best Friend

During the teenage years, finding good friendships can be difficult. There’s often drama and fair-weather friends. But you may just find that your BFF is actually “the girl next door.”

1. You have a built-in best friend for life. You two are together through thick and thin, literally.

2. With a sister, every night is a slumber party. You can stay up ridiculously late talking and laughing your heads off. Everything just seems funnier with your sister.

3. If you two get into an argument, you know that your “sisterhood” isn’t over. Unlike friendships, this relationship can’t abruptly end over an argument. You both have to work it out together and makeup. (Even if it requires sliding multiple hand-written notes under her door and then texting her a funny meme, hoping that she forgives you).

4. When you’re alone in public and want to avoid talking to people (or looking like a loner), call your sister. If she doesn’t answer, hold your phone to your ear and pretend to be talking to her. Then call her ten more times to be annoying because she didn’t answer when you desperately needed her to.

5. If you’re both in an argument with your parents, you have someone who’ll always be on your side. Well, for the most part. Unless siding with your parents will strongly benefit you, then side with your parents. She’ll get over it and then do the same thing to you.

6. She will pick out your outfits every morning because you’re so indecisive. She’ll also pick where to go for dinner and what to do on Saturday. Again, because you’re so indecisive.

7. Her closet is your closet. Her makeup is your makeup. Of course, it goes both ways, it’s a win-win.

8. You two have the best inside jokes ever. You can’t play Charades or Pictionary with anyone else because they’ll all think you’re cheating.

9. You can talk to each other without using words. Just by looking at each other you can tell what the other is thinking. Kinda creepy.

10. You don’t have to hide any emotions or quirky personality traits from her. She knows every part of who you are, and that’s what makes your sisterhood so much better.

11. You get introduced to new music and instantly fall in love with her Spotify playlist, although she would rather poke her ears out than hear your musical show tunes when you’re getting ready in the morning.

12. She’ll “like” every Instagram picture you post. It comes with the job description.

13. You can learn from her mistakes… and later use them against her while attempting to be your parents’ favorite child (hypothetically speaking, of course).

14. You always have someone to turn to for advice, and you know without a doubt that you’re getting the whole truth.

15. She will never judge you. Even if you’re stuffing your face with Nestle Toll House cookie dough. Instead of telling you how unhealthy it is, she’ll grab a spoon and join in.

When one of you moves out of the house to go to school or work, you realize that you didn’t tell her nearly enough how grateful you are for the relationship you have. Because now you don’t always have your go-to gal in the room next door, nor do you get to have a sleepover every night.

Cherish every minute you have with your sister because no one can replace the bond that you two have.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
