In honor of sister's first day of college at FIDM LA, I wrote this piece for her. I love you, Sloane!
Sloane,
Today is a big day for you. College! Yay! Judging from your Snapchat story, I can tell you're already having an amazing time in California. Honestly, you were born to be there; everything about you screams "L.A." (in a good way, obviously). I just want you to know that I am beyond amazed at what you're going to do in these next four years. You're at a highly competitive and impressive school, and I am overfilled with joy and love for you and your accomplishments. You don't realize it now, but time is going to fly by. Take it from me, your first year of college begins, and you get involved in so many classes, with so many friends, and you make the most out of everything, but before you know it, you're finished with your first year. And I guess that's my first bit of advice to you -- make sure you get out and see the world, which I know you'll do, thanks to your warm and friendly personality.
As important as it is to get out and experience life, it's equally important to maintain care for yourself. You're one of the healthiest health nuts I know, so I know you'll take wonderful care of yourself, but just remember that in college, mental health days are crucial. College can get tough at times, and sometimes, whether school is getting you down or it's something else, you just need a day in bed with good food, good music, and a great nap. I will also say, though, be careful of too many of these days, because skipping class is a slippery slope (sorry, mom). (Just kidding, mom. I always go to class. Always.)
My last bit of advice is a little "Hallmark," but I don't care. You know that as your sister, I love you and am always here for you, for anything (SOOS). I just wanted to let you know that in college, and in everything you do in life, you really have to believe in yourself. You can study the greatest things, and be given amazing opportunities, but in order to succeed and do what you want to in life, you have to believe in yourself. Your family, friends, and I all know that you're an incredibly intelligent girl and a force to be reckoned with, and you need to always remember that. You are one of the strongest, most determined, hardworking people I've ever met, and I know you're going to do
phenomenally during this next chapter of your life.
Enjoy your first day, and first year of college. FIDM doesn't know what it has coming!
I love you lots, Leetle Paesh.
Love, Squaremet
