With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s easy to become overly aware of our state of bring single. The sight of all the cute and happy couples can leave many feeling bitter and unhappy. Instead of focusing on how single we are, we should turn our attention to the many perks of being single on Valentine’s Day. Who says you need a boyfriend when you have an amazing family and circle of friends to celebrate with?
For starters, having no boyfriend on Valentine’s Day means you don’t have to spend your money on extravagant and expensive gifts. Instead, you can make one of your single friends your valentine and exchange something sweet and easy like candy or a small stuffed animal. Or alternatively, you can always just splurge on yourself.
Being single on Valentine’s day is the perfect time to round up the girls and spend the whole day pampering yourselves and talking about how great it is being single. This is such a precious time in your life to work on yourself, and that calls for a celebration. You can go out with your friends and flirt with the cute waiter and not have to worry because hey, you’re single. Or, getting all dolled up, doing your makeup, and your hair is completely optional. You can invite all the girls over and stay in. Pajamas all day long.
Another perk of being single on Valentine’s Day is not having to deal with the pressure of making the day perfect for your significant other. Hanging out with friends can be much more relaxed. Besides, when you do end up meeting “the one," it probably won’t be acceptable to ditch him for your girlfriends for a night full of lots of wine and chocolate. We might as well enjoy these things while we can.
Valentine’s Day is all about love. Love comes in all forms and so there are many different ways of celebrating. Whether it’s with family or friends, the day can still be a special one regardless of being single.
It’s easy to feel sad about not having a boyfriend or girlfriend, especially when the happy couples are out and about in full force. But let them be all cute and happy. Not having a boyfriend at this age is just one little thing. There’s a sea of other things to be happy about when it comes down to being single. We will all find someone someday. But until then, drink too much wine with your friends, flirt with lots of boys, indulge in pasta, treat yourself to a manicure- whatever it is, just have fun this Valentine’s Day. Do you, boo.
