Valentine's Day. A wonderful holiday in which couples share romantic dates, loving words, and gifts of passion. February 14th is approaching in a few weeks.I know it may seem a little early to be discussing it, but it seems like every store in the country is stocked full of adorable plush animals and oversized boxes of semi-enjoyable chocolate. (Come on, who even truly likes those mix boxes of crappy chocolate?)

If you're in a relationship, you're probably expecting a nice date and some kind of thoughtful gift. However, if you're anything like me - single since birth, then you may be less than enthused by all the hearts and roses all over the place. If this is the case, have no fear, there are quite a few things you can do to enjoy the fact that you're single this Valentine's Day.

1. Enjoy some "me" time

Okay, I get it. It may seem a little sad to be spending a holiday of love alone. However, self-love is of utmost importance. So use that face mask you've had in your bathroom cabinet since the beginning of time. Break out that bath bomb. Binge watch your favorite show. Just do you. Take some time to appreciate that you deserve a night to de-stress.

2. Throw a Valentine's Day party

The freedom of single life should be celebrated. What better way to acknowledge your freedom than all the wine you want to drink? Plus, it may make your other single friends enjoy the day more. You can also embrace the holiday by having love themed refreshments and activities.

3. Go out

A lot of clubs host events for singles on Valentine's Day. Whether you're looking for a Valentine's fling, or just want to dance your heart out, it can elevate your mood. If you're not into the club scene you could take part in alternate activities. Hit up a movie (Fifty Shades comes out February 14th, just saying). Walk your dog, grab a cup of coffee, or take an art class. Whatever peaks your interest and gets you out of the house.

4. Treat yo' self

Nothing quite hits the soul like retail therapy. Now, I'm not saying buy up the entire mall. But maybe splurge on that shirt you've been eyeballing, or get yourself large pretzel bites rather than medium. (Way better than those mixed boxes of chocolate anyway!)

5. Catch up!

Sometimes it is better to use days of leisure towards self-improvement. With school in session, there are plenty of homework assignments to stop procrastinating. Maybe you still haven't gotten around to cleaning your bedroom or have put off tackling "the chair" of laundry. Instead of feeling sad this Valentine's Day, stay motivated.

Valentine's Day is survivable if you're single, and can even be enjoyable if you play your cards right and stay positive. If you are single this year and are still feeling down no matter what, keep in mind you can get all the candy you want for half off on February 15th! Let's make this Valentine's Day a great one.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
