4 Reasons Why It's Better To Be Single Than In A Relationship On Valentine's Day

Being the perpetually single friend has its ups and downs. (More downs depending on how you look at it). But one of the greatest perks of being perpetually single is being single on Valentine's Day. I know this doesn't seem like it could be true, but just hear me out.

When you're not in a relationship on Valentine's, you're not obligated to do anything for anyone else. You don't have to buy expensive gifts, dress up, or go out for an expensive dinner. You're not even obligated to look nice that day.

With that being said, here are four reasons why being single on Valentine's Day is better than being in a relationship.

1. Anyone can be your Valentine.

Why is it that we believe that Valentine's Day is just for people that are in relationships? Valentine's Day isn't just about pleasing your significant other. It's about spreading love and showing appreciation to those you love- either romantically or not. If you think about it anyone can be your valentine. Your mom, best friend, or the cute guy at that single's party you went to. Spread the love!

2. You don't have to deal with the drama that comes along with it.

Is it just me or on every Valentine's Day you find at least one or two couples at each other's throats for something that would normally not be a big deal. You forgot to make a dinner reservation? Argument! You bought dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate? Argument! And don't get me started on what happens if you actually FORGET Valentine's Day.

3. Wine and Bubble Baths are better than fancy dinners

First off, it's cheaper! Second, nothing makes you feel better than having time for yourself. You don't have any obligation to go anywhere or do anything. You can simply sit at home, drink a bottle of wine, and catch up on your Netflix shows.

4. Two Words: February 15th!

As both a single person and a broke college student, I love a good bargain. The day after Valentine's Day has a lot of great deals! 75% off heart-shaped candies and chocolate, 2 for one wine specials, and various stuffed animals and Valentine's Day cards that we can compile for next year just in case we find ourselves in an actual relationship.

No matter if you're single, in a relationship, or somewhere in between, you can still find ways to enjoy Valentine's Day. You can go on a date with your significant other, throw a singles party with your friends, or just stay home and study for that exam you have in the morning because it's still a weekday. Because at the end of the day, Valentine's Day is just another day. The only difference is the amount of heart-shaped things that you are allowed to eat and it is still socially acceptable.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
