February fourteenth, the day that some lucky ladies love, but it seems that the vast majority of us just try to make it through on their own. It’s meant to be a day of love and happiness and of course chocolate, but many of us girls have to find our own ways to make Valentines Day special in account for being our very own valentine.
If you just really have a desire to live the classic single girl’s Valentines Day then you should probably have pre-ordered your tickets to see “Fifty Shades Darker”, the sequel to “Fifty Shades of Grey” which I’m sure you saw a few Valentines Days ago. Be prepared to be surrounded by a million other single girls fantasizing about their future love life, and imagining what it would be like to be a character in the movie. At least spending your night this way entails zero loneliness since you will literally be packed in a room with people all with the same feelings as you.
Next on the list, please forget about any dieting plan you have been sticking to because this is the one day of the year where you are expected to eat chocolate nonstop. Take advantage of this day to indulge in all kinds of sweets, really anything in sight that may bring you instant joy on this day. We all say we’re going to have a successful healthy winter but please, just give yourself a break for 24 hours I swear no one will notice the extra chocolate weight. And if you find yourself with nothing to do mid-afternoon, bake your roommates some cookies and be their secret admirer just like the one you had in middle school. Man, those were the days.
I know this one is pretty out of the ordinary and maybe weird, but you could always send yourself a Valentines Day treat. And by this I mean literally address a card to yourself, listing all of the great qualities you portray to show a little love to yourself. And the real upside to this personal gift is that you know your favorite Baked By Melissa flavors better than anyone, so you're guaranteed to have the perfect assortment. I can't say I haven't tried this out before, but I can say it's always nice getting a little something in the mail even when you picked it out yourself.
Trust me I get it, Valentines Day is not as fun and innocent as it was when we had to make valentines for the whole class in fourth grade filled with candy and cartoon character cards, but you can definitely pretend that day is still here. Just gather your girlfriends, embrace your love for chocolate covered strawberries and romantic comedies, and take a nice little break from your history textbook.
