Our friends with significant others have plans set in stone, our parents are going out and even that one friend in a fling has a date. We all know February 14th. Depending on the year, it can be a romantic holiday or one spent with our laptops and favorite snack. But there is still a stigma with being single and alone on the holiday.
Single girls should not have to be alone on Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day is about love. It is a Hallmark holiday to get people in the spirit of affection. There isn't a rule about with whom your affection has to be celebrated. We all love our friends (maybe at this time, the single ones a little more), and there is no shame with celebrating with them. Grab your girls and plan a fun night out, just avoid the “romantic” restaurants.
You don't have to stay in your bed.
We all have that single aunt who could use a night out. Give her a call and celebrate family. Take your grandpa to dinner and show him you love him. Text your 13-year-old niece and see if she wants to get ice cream. We all have people we love and much like our single butts, aren't going to have plans. There is no fault in making the best of the less than glamorous situation you're in.
DO NOT TEXT AN EX
Yes, it's bolded and capitalized to get across the point. Just because the idea of going to dinner with candles on the table isn't going down tonight does not mean your standards have to. Exes are exes for reasons. Sending a "hey" or "I miss u" text at 7 p.m. on V Day is not going to work out well. Once again, Valentine's Day is about celebrating love, and I can't think of anything worse than having a pity party about what love you once had.
Avoid social media
We say we're strong and independent and don't need a significant other, but deep down we want it. I'm advising against going on Instagram during the day, as it will be flooded with happy couples. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with people posting their happiness, but for those who are bitter about being alone it is definitely not something you should be checking. Same advice goes for Twitter because we all know the one couple that feels the need to @ each other with mushy emojis and gushy "you're the best thing ever love you so so much baby".
It's all about what you make of it
In the words of Hannah Montana, "Life's what you make it, so let's make it rock." Your attitude can make or break how your night goes. A positive outlook will result in a positive outcome, so make the best of the situation you're in. In other words, go have a fun night out with people you love because you're a strong woman and all that matters is your happiness.
