Every time Valentine’s Day comes around, I get super frustrated with the single women of the world. All I hear is “I’m forever alone” or girls complaining they’re the only ones who are single. Let me clue you in on something ladies: I have never been in a relationship on Valentine’s Day but I also have never had a crappy one. Believe it or not, you're not the only girl to ever be single on Valentine's Day. There are plenty of fun things you can do instead of moping around and crying because you didn’t have to spend fifty dollars on a gift for a Hallmark holiday. So gather your favorite group of single girl (or guy) friends and have a blast this Valentine’s Day.
Go to the Movies
There are always new movies released on Valentine’s Day. Usually, tear-jerkers or romantic comedies are being released specifically for the single girl population. Get your group and have a relaxing night! Go to dinner before hand or do half of apps afterwards. Luckily for you (and me), this year there is an extra juicy movie coming out on Valentine’s Day that will have even your taken friends wishing they were single for the night.
On February 14th, the first installment in E.L. James’s Fifty Shades series comes to life on the big screen. Fifty Shades of Grey is sure to be a fantastic film for you and your girls to see and will keep you up all night talking. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer for yourself.
*Pro-tip: If possible, read the book before seeing the film, due to the nature of the novel, the film barely slipped past the NC-17 rating, which means the film is bound to have negated some of the details you won’t want to miss*
Have a Girls Night Out
This year, we are lucky; Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, so the possibilities are endless when it comes to places to go. Let’s be honest, your favorite fraternity is probably having some sort of Valentine’s Day themed party and it will be full of candy hearts, chocolate and other single people. Get ready with your girls and treat yourselves. Go get your hair or nails done beforehand and show up looking #flawless, and then proceed to have the best night ever. Arrive together and leave together, but do your own things during the party. Afterwards, have a sleepover where you guys can catch up on the night’s events. It's fun to go out together but not be attached at the hip all night.
Have a Girls Night In
While we are lucky there is so much to do this year while going out, sometimes staying in is even more fun. Order a few heart shaped pizzas, get some $1 clearance chocolate from Target, your favorite drinks, and let the night begin. Games, gossip and Netflix are all you really need for a fun girls night in. Eat and drink your hearts out, get into a competitive game and watch an entire season of Gossip Girl. Spending some quality time with your girls is sometimes all you need.
Go to a Sporting Event
This one is my personal favorite and will definitely be a part of my Valentine’s Day. Aside from the Kiss Cam, there is typically no sign of Valentine’s Day and is a fun escape for you, and your girl and guy friends. It’s super fun to just sit back and watch your team (hopefully) kick some butt. This year, on Valentine’s Day, both the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Gopher men’s hockey team have home games, as do the Gopher women’s gymnastics and hockey teams, so there are plenty of options for you and your friends to choose from!
Valentine's Day may not be everyone's favorite day of the year, but it no longer has to be a dreaded one. You might not be in a relationship, but that doesn't mean you still can't have fun with your friends on Valentine's Day.
