Every year on February 14th, people spend money on flowers that die within days, assorted chocolates that are over priced, and cheesy Hallmark cards that make supposedly women swoon to celebrate the beloved, Valentine's Day. For anyone who looks at typical Valentine's Day gifts as over rated, you'll love this. For anyone who is single, hates spending money on useless objects, or simply hates the day, this is right up your alley. Here's what everyone besides the lovey-dovey people feel about this, "holiday".
Stores having decorations up in January.
Why is this even an idea? I'm trying to keep up with my New Year's resolution NOT who to spend money on.
When people start talking about their plans.
No one cares what DIY project you're making for your boyfriend.
Being asked, "Who's your valentine?"
My own d**n self. I make myself happy not anyone else so I'm celebrating me.
The price of a greeting card is expensive.
The average cost of a Hallmark card is twice as much as one gallon of gas. You are paying someone to print out love poems on a piece of card stock. Don't be lazy, make it yourself.
The assorted box of chocolates.
Have you ever heard the saying, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get," from Forrest Gump? He may not have been the sharpest tool in the shed but he is not only right about life being unpredictable, but about the box of chocolates. You're spending a lot of money on a box of sweets that guarantee 80% of it will never be eaten, (or will be missing a chunk out of it.)
Going anywhere on this day is busy.
Dinner? Forget about it, at minimum of an hour wait. Grocery store? Nope, you'll run into lines filled with people who are buying last minute gifts. Last thing I want to do today is hang out with a ton of people who are all waiting for the same thing.
Conversation hearts.
They don't start a conversation, they start cavities and a craving for a drink to get the chalk taste out of your mouth. Pointless.
Heart shaped pizza.
People are making this as a cute dinner for two but I make it into a delicious feast for one. Plus, I don't have to worry about if anyone else likes my toppings of choice.
12 long-stem red roses.
Yes, they're pretty but they're not cheap. Buy me a gift card or something to surprise me at work with or something that will not have to be thrown away in a day or two. Plus, if you really want to surprise me, send me flowers on a random day. Not the national day of give a girl flowers.
Not having a Valentine is OK. Not wanting to spend a lot of money is OK. Just do what makes you happy and let others do what makes them happy. You can have your box of expensive chocolates and go out to a fancy dinner and I'll have my dollar chocolate bar from gas station, sit on my couch and eat my heart shaped pizza.
