It's finally October, and fall has officially started. We all know what this means, the beginning of fall is also the beginning of "cuffing season". On the off chance you've been hiding under a rock and don't know what cuffing season, cuffing season is when it gets cold outside and young adults find themselves wanting to be tied down in a relationship and participate in couple-y activities.
For those of you who have managed to get "cuffed" already - great, awesome, happy for you. But, for the rest of our sakes, please stop posting your cutesy fall photos on Instagram because some of us are as bitter as the coffee we're drinking to help us through the rest of this semester. But good news ladies, you don't have to have an S/O to have fun during cuffing season.
So my single self is here to tell you (and convince myself) that there are plenty of ways to enjoy this time of the year, even if you're alone.
1. Pumpkin Picking
Grab your best friends and go to the pumpkin patch together. Take fun group photos sitting on the pumpkins and post that pic with a caption like "I couldn't have 'picked' better friends". You're sure to get a plethora of likes on this picture because your followers know if they don't like your basic fall post, you won't like theirs back, and isn't that what this season is all about? Plus, you can paint the pumpkins or carve them and set them outside your apartment as fall decorations.
2. Scary Movie Marathon
Cuddle up by yourself under a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and some popcorn and throw on your favorite horror movie. Whether you'd rather watch "Nightmare on Elm Street" or the less scary but equally as spiritive "Hocus Pocus", you don't have to spend the night in with your "boo" (get it, your "boo"?). It can be just as much fun to be scared by yourself. Who says you need someone to hold your hand when you're afraid?
3. Halloween Party
The best part of being single this time of year is you don't have to plan a couples costume. You can dress up for halloween as anything you want to go as. Instead of putting all that time and effort into a couples costume, you could plan a group costume. Plus, we all know that boys don't really care about Halloween costumes and can be a pain to plan with. You're probably better off planning a costume with your girls or by yourself anyway.
4. Do Some Fall Baking
Make candy apples or a pumpkin pie out of those pumpkins you picked with your friends earlier. Plus, the day after Halloween, the variety bags of candy go on sale for half off, so stock up and go chocolate crazy. This season is full of food, and what better way to console yourself about being single during cuffing season than to stuff your face with your favorite sweet fall treats?
5. Bring Out Your Fall Wardrobe
If you're anything like me, fall may be all about the fashion. Oversized, comfy sweaters and L.L. Bean boots? Yes, please. This is the time of year where you can be comfy AND cute and no one will say anything about you wearing leggings as pants. And since you don't have to save up your moolah to buy Christmas presents for your S/O, you can spend that extra cash on more cute sweaters and scarves to spruce up your tiny college closets. Plus Black Friday is right around the corner - it's a win/win!
6. Do Some Community Service
Rake leaves out of the yard of some of the elderly people living in your community. Volunteer at a soup kitchen one night and help pass out food to the less fortunate. Spend some time at the Humane Society and play outside with the puppies in the crisp fall air. The fall is a time of thanksgiving and realizing how fortunate we each are. It's the perfect time of year to give back and let others know you care.
7. Drink a Pumpkin Spice Latte
Because what else would a basic girl like you do this time of year anyway?
