We all know Valentine's Day is approaching when multiple people's Snapchat stories consist of at least one image of them negatively acknowledging the themed section while grocery shopping. There is a range of reactions to the idea that we are only a few days away from this sometimes anticipated, sometimes dreaded holiday, including: "We get it, you're single," and, "It's just a day fabricated by card-making companies to make revenue." However, wherever you may stand on the day, I am sure that it is understood that it is just a day where most of us may have to attend classes or go to work, so there is not much use stressing over it.
Personally, I am not too worried about it. I am a single nineteen year old girl who would rather just get couple's massages with her roommates to minimize the price than to actually try to find a love interest whose purpose would be to do the same thing that they would do, just, honestly, not as good. Maybe that is just the introverted, anti-heteronormative side of me coming out, but I'm cool with it.
I am all for ditching the pressures that this one day puts on the lives of young adults everywhere by following in Leslie Knope's shoes and hosting a "Galentine's Day" at the Flying Biscuit with some sweet oatmeal pancakes.
"Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."

And, if we are being completely honest, most of us are going to start our Valentine's Day complaining to all of our friends that we had not seen the night before about Corinne from The Bachelor and discussing whatever drama she instigated that was crazy enough for everyone to be talking about it, but not crazy enough for Nick to come to his senses and boot her off of the show. So target your negativity towards being frustrated over that, and your day could only get better!
