As I dipped my toes in the Mediterranean Sea for the first time, I could feel the salt in the water kiss against my skin. I stared as the wind gently hugged the waves. What a beautiful scene. I squeezed my eyes shut and sunk into the sweet salty water; that's when I could finally hear the sound of the pebbles dancing together.
The beaches here are not like back home in California. Instead of silky sand, this beach was lined with smooth large pebbles. Though they can be tricky to walk along, they make the most beautiful sounds as they let the water take the lead in their dance.
When you dive in and become completely engulfed by the cool sea salt water, this is when you can really hear them sing. It’s a sound similar to wind chimes but with a warmer texture. It’s a sound that I have a hard time describing so here is a poem I wrote to share my experience of being in the Mediterranean Sea for the first time…
Sing me sweet
Singing pebbles
Play your melody for me
Let me get lost
In your sea salt dance
A dance so clear to be
Let the pebbles swing
Underneath each of my toes
A rhythm to get lost in
A velvet tune
Of high notes bliss
Matching two pairs a kin
Hug me warm
In your wind chime ways
As you glide along the sea floor
Sing me sweet
Singing pebbles
Let the sea salt kiss my lips
Just once more
