Music has become a major part of our lives. No doubt you have your go to playlist when you're going to work, school, or working out. Sometimes, though, it's nice to listen to something else every once and awhile. If you're in need of some new music, below are five singers who can bring some more flavor to your playlists.

Anthony Green

My first introduction to Anthony Green was through his current band, Circa Survive. After falling in love with the group, I did some research and learned that Green also has a solo career. Naturally, I had to listen to his solo work. After listening to one song, I became immediately hooked. His music contains such a raw honesty that I find captivating, and many songs hit home for me. I also love hearing him perform live.

Favorite song: "East Coast Winters"

Jaymes Young

I discovered Jaymes Young's music via an accidental click on YouTube. Instead of going back to what I was originally doing, I decided to listen to the song, "I'll Be Good." Initially what caught my attention was the music video visually, but the song is so beautiful I had to keep listening. What I love about his music is how it has a heavy quality to it, but is also entrancing because of his voice and overall style.

Favorite song: "Stone"

Cobi

Last summer, I went to a music festival where Cobi was performing. Beforehand I listened to the singles he released prior to the festival (he has since released an EP), and I was blown away. Cobi's voice is one I can't talk enough about. Each one of his songs showcases his powerful vocals, as well as how he can combine different genres without affecting the quality of his sound. His talent keeps you coming back for more.

Favorite song: "Don't You Cry For Me"

Troye Sivan

My sister introduced me to Troye Sivan just shy of a year after he released Blue Neighbourhood. I was skeptical at first, because our music tastes often don't align. She told me to listen to "Lost Boy," so I humored her and did. I was quite surprised, as I wasn't expecting what I was listening to. Needless to say, I ended up listening to Sivan's music on repeat (and still do). His voice is so pure, and his music is a breath of fresh air. It was hard not to get hooked.

Favorite song: "Lost Boy"

Zayde Wølf

Zayde Wølf is one I only recently found going through my Spotify recommendations. As with every single artist mentioned above, I decided right away that this guy was worth listening to after only one song. His music has a rock/pop/electronic sound that works to his advantage. His music is catchy, upbeat, and will make you want to dance. They're perfect for a road trip playlist.

Favorite song: "Golden Age"

If you find youself growing tired of some of the music on you iPod, listen to some (or all) of the singers above. Change up your playlist, and find another favorite artist.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
