I used to think that motivational books were written by some cliché authors that used repetitive tactics in order for people to actually get along with themselves and succumb to an oblivion of sunshine and rainbows, pretending that every aspect of your life can turn from bad to good in an instant when positive thinking is involved. I thought these books were only for people who have hit an all time low, going to therapy maybe a couple times of week and escaping the torturous game we so happen to call life.
Boy I sure was wrong.
This was before I was introduced to success coach Jen Sincero, the author of You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. After countless ravishing reviews from my friends about this motivational book that happened to be all the hype, I decided to give it a shot. When I tell you I couldn't put the book down I literally never put it down from start to finish, (except for the occasional bathroom break). This book had me rolling from laughter and crying of sincerity. Jen really knew how to capture her audience through this piece of literature and that was super important to me.
Jen Sincero not only gives advice on how to live your best life but as well as stories in between to allow the reader to realize that everybody's human and it is okay to fuck up sometimes. Her experiences going through the best and even the worst times of her life allow her to follow through with her notions of advice and mold them together in a meaningful discussion.
After finishing her book, it really opened my eyes on how the world works. There are so many extremities we think we may go through and we worry about the most ridiculous/meaningless aspects of our life when we should stop and think about the amazing things we already have. In the book, Jen makes a huge emphasis on how we can't change absolutely every little detail of our life and encourages us to love what we can't change whether it be our past, physical features or even a grade on a test you just received. She explains that everything happens for a reason, no matter what the ending conclusion is, and that is something we all need to take into consideration every once in a while.
Jen noted almost all of my insecurities and worries about life throughout the book and I couldn't help but laugh and cry. I would cry from how right she was but also laugh from how relatable she is from all the embarrassing moments everyone goes through on a day by day basis. You are a Badass literally told me how to take control of my life and turn my failures into successes.
Although this review was only based on my first motivational book it's gonna be pretty hard for any other book to match up to the reality that Jen ever so preaches about. I felt like the book really spoke to me, and free therapy is really hard to come by these days. So if you're ever feeling down about yourself or where you are in life at the moment doesn't feel right, please read Jen Sincero's book because it is definitely a game changer. If you want to improve your life but don't want to get caught red-handed in doing so, this book is for you.
